Job Summary:
MSNBC is looking for an SEO manager to boost audience development efforts across MSNBC.com. This person will collaborate with editorial, product and tech teams to implement search strategies, including data analysis, on-page optimization, content gap analysis, competitive research and reporting. We’re looking for a strategist who understands the importance of search intent and content discovery. They also stay informed on industry-wide SEO updates and analyze developing trends.
Essential Responsibilities:
Develop and enhance SEO strategy for MSNBC articles and videos published, including breaking news, analysis, and opinion content across owned and third-party platforms
Communicate regularly with editorial teams about SEO strategies, tactics, and performance
Plan and implement a search-based traffic referral strategy for MSNBC digital
Write strong, search-friendly headlines while providing additional on-page optimization support (meta descriptions, header tags, internal linking, etc.)
Share real-time analytics and make recommendations to improve search traffic
Train writers and editors to help them think about ways to integrate search signals into the writing process
Assist in weekly reporting and participate in regular editorial meetings
Conduct keyword research and advise actionable SEO recommendations to editorial team
Map keywords to user intent, identify content gaps and emerging trends
Monitor keyword rankings and provide suggestions based on findings

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
At least three years of proven SEO experience, preferably within a news organization
Comprehensive understanding of editorial SEO
Ability to multitask, adapt quickly to changing priorities and thrive in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication (written and verbal) and time management skills
Organized and analytical with strong attention to detail
Ability to work independently and with cross-functional teams
Proficient with Google Trends, Google Search Console, SEMrush and other SEO tools
Team player with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude

Salary Range: $85,000 - $115,000
