Cybersecurity Subject Matter Expert (SME)

to support the Department of Commerce (DOC) Office of Cybersecurity by providing expertise in FISMA compliance, cybersecurity reporting, and technical documentation. You will play a key role in ensuring timely, accurate, and consistent reporting to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Congress, and other external entities. Your work will involve collecting, analyzing, and submitting cybersecurity data in alignment with federal standards, while synthesizing complex information into actionable insights for a wide range of stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

Provide subject matter expertise on FISMA-related tasks, including data collection, analysis, Cyberscope entry, and reporting. Ensure accurate and timely submission of OMB, CISA, and Congressional cybersecurity reports, both scheduled and ad-hoc. Streamline report preparation in accordance with standard operating procedures and approved submission protocols. Support reporting efforts related to:

Quarterly and annual CIO FISMA metrics Executive Orders and White House cybersecurity memos OMB Memoranda on cybersecurity initiatives CISA Binding and Emergency Directives GSA FedRAMP PMO requirements

Plan, develop, finalize, and review key deliverables for DOC cybersecurity programs. Conduct interviews with technical, administrative, and executive staff to gather information for documentation. Develop and manage data calls to collect required cybersecurity information across DOC components, ensuring completeness and consistency for reporting to OMB, CISA, and other oversight entities. Map technical requirements and system capabilities to relevant security controls and policies. Analyze data to deliver both detailed and executive-level insights. Ensure consistency and alignment of reports with broader cybersecurity strategy and external communications. Required Skills, Experience, & Qualifications:

Master's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required. A minimum of 8 years of experience in cybersecurity, including at least 5 years of FISMA reporting experience Public Trust Suitability One of the following certifications is required; CISSP, CISM, and/or CCSP. Deep understanding of FISMA, NIST guidelines, OMB mandates, and CISA directives. Experience with federal cybersecurity reporting platforms, including Cyberscope. Experience with federal Governance Risk and Compliance platforms, including CSAM. Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex data into clear, concise outputs for diverse stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to manage compliance documentation across various cybersecurity domains. Proficiency in interpreting federal policy requirements and translating them into actionable strategies. Ability to engage collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and high-level stakeholders. Experience in synthesizing complex data into clear, concise, and actionable outputs for diverse audiences and developing comprehensive cybersecurity documentation (risk assessments, briefings, reports, plans, white papers, etc.) Experience engaging with stakeholders across technical, administrative, and executive levels. Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to tailor content to diverse audiences. Familiarity with continuous monitoring practices and report generation. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment Strong communication skills for technical documentation and stakeholder engagement.
