Position Summary:
The role of the Food Service Manager Class A (Floater) is to communicate effectively with staff and assure that guidelines of district are followed. The Food Service Manager provides good customer service with exceptional skills to incorporate so that the Office of School Nutrition program can continue to feed the children of DPSCD. Initialize professionalism with students, staff and administration throughout the district. This role is also responsible for assuring that compliance is maintained when ordering food to distribute to the children.
This position is designed to relieve temporary absences, vacancies or leaves and may be assigned to any of the District's work sites on a periodic basis.
Minimum Qualifications: High School graduate or G.E.D. Certificate Required Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel to any of the 107 school based kitchens within Detroit Public Schools Community District on any given day. ServSafe Certification Required Associate degree from an accredited institution with a major in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management, Foods and Nutrition, Dietetics or related fields or supervision experience in a school food or fast-food retail setting preferred. Must have demonstrated the ability to work and communicate with others in a leadership capacity. Computer skills (Office Suite, word processor, spreadsheets, knowledge of peripherals such as printers and hand held scanner are a must) Must have knowledge of food preparation and kitchen safety. Ability to plan, organize, assign, supervise, evaluate and inspect the work of others. Ability to use good judgment and make sound decisions. Be enthusiastic and have a pleasing personality.
Essential Functions: Plan, supervise and direct the operation of food service programs at assigned location in accordance with USDA and Michigan Department of Education guidelines and requirements and MDE Fresh Fruit/Vegetable and other Farm to fresh programs. Ensure that safe food handling techniques and methods are maintained during all food preparation and service. Fill in at various schools during staff vacancies and absences. Use district hardware and software to effectively and efficiently manage kitchen responsibilities. Inform principals and supervisors of activities, progress and concerns related to the food service operation. Create and maintain good employee morale and relationships. Establish an atmosphere in which students will be encouraged to eat. Maintain efficient operation and assure compliance with policies and procedures. Plan and conduct regular staff meetings. Plan and organize ongoing training to staff. Conduct one-on-one check-ins. Assess performance of staff in conjunction with the Office of School Nutrition. Complete all reports and school nutrition services in accordance with USDA and Michigan Department of Education guidelines and requirements. Accurate ordering and receiving of all food and paper supplies. Submit an accurate Payroll when due. Maintain production records and submitting of monthly inventory. Cook and maintain food productions.
