The
Nurse Manager
is responsible for leading and managing the off-shift supervisors and patient observers. This role ensures safe, efficient, and effective patient care operations during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. This person is a key liaison with the transfer center and inpatient units to facilitate timely and efficient patient movement throughout the hospital.
Key Responsibilities
Directly supervises off-shift nursing supervisors and provides guidance in clinical and operational decision making,
Directly supervises the patient observers
Ensures consistent application of hospital policies and procedures across all units during off-hours
Provides coaching, mentoring, performance evaluation, and support for professional development of off-shift leadership staff and the patient observers
Acts as a key conduit between day-shift leadership and off shift operations to ensure continuity of care and communication
Builds collaborative relationships with unit managers, hospitalists, case management, and other departments.
Coordinates closely with the hospital's transfer center to ensure timely and appropriate placement of patients
Collaborates with inpatient units to monitor capacity and bed availability in real time
Leads efforts to reduce bottlenecks and improve patient flow by addressing delays in admissions, discharges, and interdepartmental transfers
Promotes compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards across all shifts.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Graduate of NLN Accredited School of Nursing
Bachelor of Science in Nursing required. Master's Degree preferred
Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse License
Maintains current Basic Life Support "C" certification
Five years' clinical experience in department area.
Demonstrated leadership and management abilities
