Senior Software Engineer - Optimize Platform
About the Role You're an experienced engineer who wants to lead efforts that help schools, hospitals, and organizations reduce energy waste and reinvest savings into student programs, medical initiatives, and infrastructure improvements.
You'll build and scale the Optimize platform-core web and mobile tools used by energy specialists and client executives daily. You'll tackle multi-tenant systems, performance-sensitive UIs, and data-rich backend services while mentoring engineers and driving technical strategy. What You'll Do Lead Engineering That Scales •Own end-to-end feature development across React, React Native, and Node.js •Architect scalable backend services and multi-tenant data layers serving thousands of buildings •Optimize performance, security, and usability across platforms •Coach engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and architecture sessions Drive Technical Strategy •Guide platform architecture evolution as we scale AI capabilities •Identify and advocate for refactors, performance improvements, and foundational investments •Influence practices around testing, observability, and secure-by-default design •Collaborate with Product/Design to break complex problems into elegant solutions Technical Environment React, React Native, Node.js, Express, Prisma PostgreSQL, Redis, ElasticSearch AWS, GitHub Actions, Terraform Amazon Bedrock, AI-assisted development tools What You Bring Technical Leadership (3-5 years experience): •Deep expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript, React ecosystem, and Node.js •Strong system design, API architecture, and backend engineering skills •Proficiency with relational databases and data modeling (PostgreSQL preferred) •Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD workflows, and AWS cloud services •Proven track record mentoring engineers and leading technical discussions Problem-Solving Excellence: •Break down complex, ambiguous problems with minimal guidance •Make architectural decisions balancing current needs with future scalability •Clear communication of technical concepts to various audiences •Passion for energy efficiency and environmental technology Why This Role Matters •Technical Leadership Impact: Shape architecture driving real-world energy conservation •Mission Amplification: Every feature empowers field teams to take smarter action, saving energy and money •Innovation Opportunities: Experiment with new technologies while maintaining a practical focus •Mentorship Growth: Lead next generation of engineers in a mission-driven environment This Role May Not Be a Fit If You: •Prefer purely individual work without mentoring •Are uncomfortable making decisions with incomplete information •Expect extensive project management support •Seek a stepping stone role rather than a long-term technical leadership opportunity
