The State Controller's Office is seeking to hire two (2) motivated and dependable IT Student Assistants to assist the Unclaimed Property Division (UPD) with the day-to-day technology operations. This role offers hands-on experience in troubleshooting, hardware and software support, and assisting users with technical issues. Ideal candidates should be currently enrolled in an IT or related program, possess strong communication skills, and demonstrate a willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment. This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.
Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check: educational verification (degree, license, or official transcript) or DMV clearance. Applicants will be required to pass required pre-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department.
UEI does not allow students to hold more than one UEI Job at a time, or work in more than one account per pay period. UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI Student assistant position for a different UEI student assistant position should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week's notice.
UEI is not a multi-state employer. UEI only employs candidates who live and work in the state of California. If selected for the position you must reside in California and all work must be performed in the state of California throughout the course of employment.
Prerequisites
Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list.

Work Schedule
Flexible workdays and work hours, Monday - Friday, between 8 AM - 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor.
Additional Work Schedule
Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday - Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer).
Minimum Qualifications
The Student Assistant has the ability to analyze information and situations, identify and solve problems, reason logically and draw valid conclusions. Provide information technology consultation in support of business programs. Develop effective solutions. Apply creative thinking in the design of methods of processing information with information technology systems. Monitor and resolve problems with information technology systems hardware, software and processes. Monitor project milestones and deliverables; coordinate and consult with users, administrators, and engineers to identify business and technical requirements. Develop and sustain cooperative working relationships with project stakeholders. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. The Student Assistant must have excellent communication skills and be able to provide the appropriate level of information to different audiences. The incumbent must have the ability to effectively communicate in verbal and/or written form as needed to provide presentations, contribute in meetings and work sessions, address risks and issues, and create necessary plans and reports, etc. Preferred Qualifications
The Student Assistant must demonstrate extensive knowledge of the principles of public administration, organization, and management; information technology systems equipment, software and practices; analytical techniques; technical report writing. Independently secures resources to complete assignments and solve problems. Individuals who are, or have been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth or a formerly incarcerated youth as defined by Government Code section 18220 are encouraged to apply and will be given priority. Please note that prior to appointment, individuals claiming preference under one of these categories will be required to furnish documentation establishing their eligibility. Service desk support - Provide technical software, hardware, and network problem resolution to all UPD users to support UPD's organizational needs by performing questions/problem diagnosis and communicating technical solutions. Act as the UPD Tier 1 support to triage tickets as they come in and resolve if possible or escalate internally for assistance. Act as the liaison to facilitate network, software and hardware resolutions for UPD to support organizational needs using software applications and communication skills. Respond to Service Desk requests to support UPD's organizational needs using HP-Service Manager, Remedy Smart IT (Helix), Microsoft Outlook or Teams and communications skills. Deliver exceptional technical customer support by identifying, troubleshooting and resolving a wide range of technical computer- related problems using software applications and communication skills. Troubleshooting and resolving a wide range of technical computer- related problems. Provide technical software, hardware and network problem resolution to all UPD users to support UPD's organizational needs. IT Asset Management & Procurement -Develop and maintain the UPD Asset Inventory to ensure proper resource planning using SharePoint, Microsoft Excel, Helix ticketing system or other software systems. Advise, create, or participate in the design of new system architecture, standards, and methods to support organizational needs using software applications and communication skills at the request of management. Assist in the development of and maintaining of policies and procedures to secure, support, maintain, protect and update UPD assets using software applications and communication skills at the request of management. System Updates -Assess and understand complex business processes and customer requirements to ensure new technologies, architectures, and security products will meet division needs using various software applications and communication skills. Coordinate PC Hardware, Operating System, and Software Updates for the division to ensure new technologies, architectures, and security products deploy properly using various software applications and communication skills.
Physical Requirements
Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office environment.
