Public Works Department

provides a wide range of maintenance and facilities services including the management of crucial infrastructure and citywide systems such as streets, traffic signal and street light systems, landscape, water, sewer, waste, recycling, and storm drain systems. The Department also provides civil engineering services for land development and Capital Improvement Projects (CIP).

Duties/Responsibilities What You'll Do

As our new Management Intern, you will:

Assist in the development and implementation of integrated waste management programs in support of State mandates (AB 939, AB 341, AB 1826, and SB 1383). Conduct research and compile data related to solid waste, recycling, and organics diversion efforts; assist in preparing technical reports and summaries. Perform field monitoring of commercial, multi-family, and residential waste collection services to evaluate recycling and organics compliance requirements. Perform a variety of administrative duties related to regulations, policies, procedures, systems, reports, surveys, and documentation. What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who:

Is familiar with methods and techniques of research, statistical analysis, and report and budget preparation and procedures. Understands the organization and function of the Public Works Department. Is excited by challenges, loves to learn, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Qualifications Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education:

High school diploma or G.E.D. and current enrollment in an accredited college/university with coursework in business administration, public administration, environmental studies, environmental science, or a related field. Experience:

Relevant/qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Licenses and Certifications:

Possession of a valid California Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment. Special Requirements Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standing office equipment, including a computer. Operate a motor vehicle and visit various community sites. Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen. Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. This position seldom requires lifting more than 20 pounds.
