Boston Family Days, launched by Mayor Michelle Wu in early 2024, is a new program that provides transformative opportunities for our students and their families. Through this program, every student living in Boston enrolled in grades K-12 or Boston Pre-K gets free admission along with up to two guests to more than fourteen of Boston's leading cultural institutions and museums. In addition, this spring, Mayor Wu announced an expansion of Boston Family Days to include performing arts institutions as well.

In less than one year, over 50,000 students and family members have participated in this program. Through exploration of these world-class cultural institutions, the City hopes to nurture curiosity and encourage lifelong learning. This is part of Mayor Wu's work to make Boston the most family-friendly city in the country.

The Mayor's Office of Arts and Culture (MOAC) and the Mayor's Office are seeking a driven and experienced Program Manager to manage the Boston Family Days program as it grows from a pilot to a long-term program. Under the direction of the Chief of Arts and Culture and the Mayor's Office Policy Team, the Manager will support both MOAC and the Policy Team by managing the essential operations of the Boston Family Days program. The Manager will pursue this work by collaborating with the Mayor's Office and departments across the City of Boston. The Program Manager will support the efforts to transition Boston Family Days from a pilot into a permanent program that can serve generations of students and families to come.

Responsibilities

Serve as the primary point of contact for Boston Family Days and manage important relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including participating cultural institutions, City staff, philanthropic partners, and Boston families. Draft clear and engaging materials for the program for families and partners, including FAQs, emails, newsletters, press releases, reports including data analysis, and others. Develop and manage efforts to build awareness and increase family participation and engagement in Boston Family Days. Set agendas for Boston Family Days internal meetings and maintain minutes and associated work plans. Work in partnership with the Mayor’s Office, the Department of Innovation and Technology, Boston Public Schools, and other city departments to advance this program. Perform related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications

At least four (4) years of work experience. A bachelor's degree is required; a graduate degree in planning, policy, business administration, or a related field is preferred. Experience managing large projects in a complex stakeholder environment with tight deadlines. Strong understanding and interest in government, policy-making, arts administration, and/or the nonprofit sector with a demonstrated commitment to public service. Effective oral and written communication with a diverse range of people, including constituents, City personnel, philanthropic partners, and a range of external partners across the City. Experience working closely and collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders, including municipal employees, nonprofit leaders, school leaders, families, and others, and to promote and maintain a collaborative team approach. Strong communication, presentation, and relationship management skills, with a proven ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and discretion. Ideal candidates should be "self-starters" and comfortable with charting their own course in complex organizations. Experience and ability to organize project-based work, track and support the completion of multiple project deliverables, write thoughtful correspondence with internal and external stakeholders, and generate pitch decks and dynamic spreadsheets. Familiarity with Boston's cultural and education ecosystems, including Boston Public Schools and relevant organizations and programs serving young people and families. Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job. Knowledge of Boston's neighborhoods, communities, cultures, and history is preferred. Must be proficient with Google Suite and Microsoft Office. Fluency or competency in at least one of the following languages is preferred: Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, Mandarin, or Cantonese.
