Responsibilities The Development Associate is a valued member of the Living Classrooms Development team and the local National Capital Region team. This person must be a self-starter, problem-solver, team player, and flexible to changing schedules and programs. They should have strong interpersonal, writing/communication, and organizational skills with the following core responsibilities: Proposal Writing/Prospect Research Write compelling proposals, solicitation letters, and reports. Research and seek new funding sources, including government, corporate, and foundation grants. Understand the organization's history, structure, objectives, programs, and financial needs. Identify and research grant opportunities from various agencies. Draft grant proposals and supporting documents based on funding requirements. Collaborate with leadership to produce proposals and reports. Submit proposals for approval and respond to queries. Maintain positive relationships with funders and stakeholders. Keep records and submit reports related to grants. Fundraising and Special Events Assist in planning and staffing fundraising events. Help sell sponsorships and secure donations, including food and vendor donations. Assist with auctions at events. Attend and support fundraisers and networking events. Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Development. Administrative Support Support administrative tasks related to development, such as mailings and tracking donations. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, creative writing, or related field, or demonstrated superior writing skills. At least two years of grant writing experience preferred. Knowledge of proposal submission and fundraising processes. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Strong research, organizational, and time management skills. Attention to detail. Familiarity with the DC area and its environmental and cultural context is preferred. The above statements are general descriptions and may not include all responsibilities.
