The IR-4 Project Executive Director position reports to the Associate Dean for Research at CALS. The responsibilities include:

Coordination, oversight, and management of the research, regulatory activities, and long-term leadership of the IR-4 Project (30%) Empowering 125 scientists and staff at headquarters, Land-Grant Universities, USDA-ARS to conduct regulatory research and develop dossiers for registration of bio-based and chemical pesticides on various crops. Developing and implementing policies and strategies for IR-4 operations, including participation in the IR-4 Project Management Committee, and overseeing research at headquarters, regional offices, laboratories, and research sites. Engaging with industry stakeholders to address challenges and ensure IR-4 remains responsive and innovative. Securing approximately $20 million annually from USDA, state agencies, industry, and other sources to support research priorities. Program and fiscal management of IR-4 Project Headquarters (30%) Providing leadership to a team of 28 scientists and staff managing research on pest management technologies. Maintaining a database of pest management voids, setting research priorities, developing protocols, directing studies, and preparing regulatory dossiers. Managing approximately $20 million in grants and gifts, serving as Principal Investigator for grants. Advocacy for the IR-4 Project (20%) Engaging with stakeholders, attending conferences, serving as a spokesperson, and managing communication activities. Supporting efforts to raise awareness of funding needs with government bodies and industry groups. Fundraising (20%) Soliciting donations from industry, associations, and other entities for unrestricted funds, research support, and event sponsorships. Seeking new funding opportunities from diverse sources including international governments and private foundations. This position is based in Raleigh, NC, at NC State University. Minimum Education and Experience PhD in horticulture, plant sciences, pest management, chemistry, or related field, with experience in regulatory science or pest management research. Other Required Qualifications Attention to detail, ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and work well in teams and independently. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Leadership skills to motivate and manage others. Commitment to customer service and stakeholder engagement. Willingness to travel domestically and internationally. Preferred Qualifications At least 15 years of experience in regulatory science or pest management research. Willingness to travel for meetings and conferences.
