Business Intelligence Data Engineer

to join our Business Intelligence (BI) team.

BI at Klaviyo collaborates across all departments to provide solutions for our data, analytics, and reporting needs. Our mission is to champion data-driven value creation, and you will play an essential role in creating and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers Klaviyo’s business. The role will particularly oversee the creation of backend data models used to power centralized metrics and reporting across the company.

Technologies we use (not exhaustive):

Snowflake, Airflow, and dbt.

Fivetran, Airbyte, and Workato.

ThoughtSpot, Tableau, and dbt metrics.

Amazon Web Services (EC2, S3, Lambda, Athena, DynamoDB, etc.), Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker.

How you will make a difference:

Develop and maintain the “source of truth” data environment used by everyone at Klaviyo to measure the health of the business.

Work with petabyte-scale databases optimized for business analytics.

Develop data models that support predictive recommendations, marketing attribution, and financial forecasts to aid decision-making.

Collaborate regularly with teams such as Finance, Go-To-Market, Engineering, Customer Success, Support, Product, Sales, and Marketing.

Build a world-class, self-service data environment in collaboration with data engineers and analysts.

Who You Are You are a creator at heart who understands the importance of a well-designed data environment. You have a deep understanding of business problems and how to create, transform, and store data to solve them. You are systematic, creative, and collaborative, always seeking the best solutions to support business success.

2-5 years of data development experience in SQL and 1+ years in object-oriented programming languages (e.g., Python).

Experience in database design, 3NF, dimensional modeling, or star schema.

Experience with Big Data technologies (Snowflake, Databricks/Spark, Trino).

1+ years of data modeling experience using dbt.

Experience building data pipelines supporting business operations with reverse ETL tools.

Experience with reporting tools like Tableau, Looker, or ThoughtSpot.

Comfortable handling large volumes of semi-structured data.

Knowledge of data engineering best practices, including data discovery, documentation, infrastructure deployment, and security.

Masters degree in Data Engineering or equivalent experience with an undergraduate degree.
