Job Description The College of Fine Arts seeks a Scene Shop Manager for the School of Theatre. This position oversees the timely, accurate, and high-quality delivery of scenery produced to the standards set by the Design, Production, and Management Faculty. The role supports approximately nine Theatre productions, four Opera Institute productions, the BU Summer Theatre Institute, and special events including the annual Showcase. Productions are held at various venues including the Joan & Edgar Booth Theatre and CFA Production Center.
The Scene Shop Manager provides educational training, supervision, and mentorship for Graduate and Undergraduate majors, as well as first-year and non-theatre majors involved in these productions. Responsibilities include managing the Scene Shop, determining labor needs, overseeing student and professional personnel, and instructing in construction and technical skills. The manager also handles scenery supply budgets and manages procurement, operation, and maintenance of scenery supplies, facilities, materials, equipment, and digital resources.
This role requires collaboration with faculty, staff, and students to realize artistic visions and uphold high standards of achievement.
Required Skills
B.A./B.S. degree
Two to three years of related experience
Availability for some night and weekend work
