Description

Position Summary

The Inventory Control Clerk is responsible for the accuracy, integrity, and timely updating of all inventory records, specifically reinforcing steel (rebar) bundles and related materials. This role performs systematic and physical counts, reconciles variances, ensures proper tagging to maintain traceability back to mill certificates, and supports efficient material flow and storage. The position also processes returns, documents discrepancies, and communicates inventory status and issues to management to minimize stock errors, delays, and waste.

Key Responsibilities Update inventory counts daily; maintain accurate electronic and hard-copy inventory records for management review. Identify, investigate, and report inventory discrepancies (quantity, tag mismatch, damage, or certification issues); escalate recurring variance trends. Maintain and publish a current list of bundles/rebar requiring new or replacement tags; generate and apply tags promptly. Manage receipt of incoming rebar shipments: verify quantities, heat numbers, mill certifications (MTRs), and condition before system entry. Tag bundles of rebar with printed inventory tags matching mill tags to preserve traceability and compliance. Process and document returned items: inspect, segregate, retag (if needed), update system quantities, and record reason codes. Conduct regular cycle counts and full physical inventories; reconcile and adjust system records with documented justifications. Assist with organized staging, movement, rotation, and storage of rebar in the warehouse or yard to reduce handling time and damage. Maintain orderly inventory areas: clear aisles, proper stacking, legible tag placement, and secure storage of partial bundles. Collaborate with Operations / Production to support material availability for fabrication schedules. Use basic spreadsheets or inventory software (e.g., Excel) to record, audit, and report inventory data. Communicate clearly (verbally and in writing) in both English and Spanish with drivers, yard personnel, and supervisors. Adhere to and promote all safety procedures (PPE, forklift / crane safety, pinch point awareness, load securement) when around heavy materials and moving equipment. Promptly report unsafe conditions, damaged stock, or potential loss issues. Support continuous improvement of inventory control processes (suggest procedural adjustments, labeling improvements, layout changes). Perform related duties as assigned to ensure inventory accuracy and operational efficiency. Qualifications

Required Skills & Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience in inventory control, warehousing, or logistics preferred (steel / construction materials exposure a plus). Strong attention to detail with low tolerance for inaccurate data. Basic math skills (counts, weights, simple conversions) and computer literacy (data entry, spreadsheet updates). Familiarity with inventory tracking systems or Excel-based logs; willing to learn company systems. Effective communication and basic problem solving skills. Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication ability required/preferred (choose one based on your need). Reliable, self directed, and able to meet deadlines in a fast paced, changing environment. Willing and able to work in a non climate controlled warehouse/yard (heat, cold, dust, noise). Physical & Environmental Requirements

Frequent standing, walking on concrete or uneven yard surfaces, bending, reaching, grasping, and manual tag application. Regular lifting, pushing, or pulling of materials up to 50 lbs independently; heavier items with team lift or mechanical assist. Ability to visually read and distinguish tag numbers, heat numbers, and certification print. Exposure to outdoor weather, temperature extremes, dust, and industrial noise; required PPE (hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, high visibility vest, steel toe boots, hearing protection as needed). Safe movement around forklifts, cranes, trucks, and cutting/fabrication equipment.
