Description
This position inspects construction development to ensure compliance with City Ordinance, the Florida Building Code, the National Electrical Code, and outside agencies. Employees in this classification perform at a technical level and are responsible for inspecting all phases of construction to verify conformity with the approved plans and specifications. The objective is to enforce all local, state and federal laws, ordinances and regulations to ensure the safety and welfare of the public. This employee works closely with residents, business owners, contractors, and developers. Excellent communication and customer service skills are required.
Days/Hours: Monday - Thursday, 7 AM - 4:30 PM, Friday 7 AM - 2 PM
Examples of Duties
Perform electrical inspections in accordance with the Florida Building Code. Schedule inspection appointments with customers when requested. Meet with customers to discuss and resolve code violations. Return all phone calls and emails the same day. Investigate complaints of work without permits, if necessary. Investigate complaints of unsafe structures, if necessary. Possess the ability to present cases to the Special Magistrate and Unsafe Structures Board, if necessary.
Typical Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent. Possess a Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record or be able to obtain one by date of hire. Possess a current State License or Certificate of Competency as a Minimum Journeyman Electrician.
Must obtain a provisional certificate as an electrical inspector from the State of Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board within forty-five (45) days of appointment and must obtain a standard certificate as an electrical inspector from the above noted Board within one (1) year of date of appointment. To be certified by Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals (BORA), applicant must meet at least one of the requirements outlined in Code Sections 104.16.3.1 through 104.16.3.4. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving. Health, Dental, Vision Coverage: • Active 1st of the month after 30 days • Spousal exclusion policy applies
Retirement: • 401A (7% City contribution, increases to 9% after 7 years) • 457 Roth & Roth IRA plan options
Life Insurance: • $75,000 city paid (additional optional life and other voluntary insurance plans available)
Long Term Disability: • Paid by City
