What You'll Do: As a Meter Technician, you'll be on the front lines, performing complex technical duties to maintain, install, and repair our culinary water and pressurized irrigation metering systems. Your day could involve: Solving Mysteries: Investigating high water bills and service irregularities, being the hero who brings clarity to our residents. Precision Installation: Installing water meters and MXU units for both homes and businesses, ensuring accurate usage reporting. High-Tech Testing: Conducting advanced maintenance tests on water instruments, including pressure and volume tests, leak detection, and troubleshooting malfunctions. Field Operations: Responding to work orders, performing field installations and repairs, and addressing disruptions to supply and distribution lines. Inventory & Care: Managing inventory of critical equipment and ensuring all tools are in top condition. Community Impact: Advising developers and contractors on optimal meter placement, contributing to the city's growth. We're Looking for Someone Who Is: A Problem-Solver: Ready to tackle complex technical challenges and adapt to emergencies. Detail-Oriented: Meticulous in maintaining records, testing equipment, and ensuring precision. Physically Capable: Comfortable with strenuous manual labor, including lifting up to 75 pounds, and working in various weather conditions. Safety-Conscious: Knowledgeable about OSHA safety standards and able to set up safe work zones. A Team Player: Able to build strong working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the public. Minimum Qualifications (Choose Your Adventure!): Meter Technician I: High school diploma or equivalent. One year of construction industry experience (water/wastewater preferred) OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be 18+ with a valid Utah CDL-A (or willing to obtain within 12 months). Ready for on-call duty and 24-hour standby! Willing to get Utah Flagger Certification within 6 months. Meter Technician II (Elevate Your Career!): High school diploma plus technical certifications, training, or an Associate's degree preferred. Four years of meter installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting experience, preferably with a water system or municipality (Sensus and Xylem product experience a plus!). Must be 18+ with a valid Utah CDL-A. Water Distribution Operator IV Certification is a must. Backflow Assembly Tester/Technician or Cross-Connection Control Program Administrator certification required. SCADA training for Ignition by Inductive University is essential. Utah Flagger Certified. A Glimpse into Your Work Environment: Be prepared for a dynamic setting that can include working on high ladders and in manholes, and daily exposure to seasonal weather extremes. You'll navigate potential hazardous exposures to gases (methane, hydrogen sulfide, chlorine), oxygen-deficient atmospheres, electrical shock, industrial wastes, and raw sewage.
