Intellectual Property Associate Attorney (2–5 Years) – Chicago Direct Counsel is seeking an
Intellectual Property Associate
to join a
nationally recognized law firm’s Chicago office . This is a unique opportunity to be part of a multidisciplinary IP team that handles both
prosecution and litigation , with a focus on
patents and trademarks

You’ll be part of a collaborative IP group that advises clients at every stage—from filing and prosecution to enforcement and litigation. The firm places a strong emphasis on mentorship and hands-on experience, giving associates the opportunity to: Draft and prosecute patents and manage trademark matters.
Support litigation strategy and brief writing.
Engage in client-facing responsibilities early in your career.
Work closely with senior attorneys on complex, tech-focused matters in an environment that values initiative and long-term growth.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
2–5 years of experience in IP prosecution and litigation, with a focus on patents and trademarks.
Patent drafting experience and strong research and brief writing skills.
An undergraduate degree in
Electrical Engineering
(or equivalent technical background).
Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills.
J.D. from an accredited institution with strong academic performance.
Admitted in Illinois and registered as a patent attorney before the USPTO (or actively working toward both).

Base Salary:
$230,000 – $280,000 depending on experience.
Discretionary annual bonus.
