Job Description:
The Director of Web Services and Administration is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and management of the university's digital presence. This role combines technical expertise, strategic thinking, and leadership skills to ensure that the University's website and digital platforms are effective, secure, and aligned with institutional goals.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Technical Competence: Lead the development and maintenance of the university's website using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and CMS platforms. Oversee backend technologies, databases, and hosting environments to ensure performance, security, and scalability. Implement SEO strategies to enhance website visibility and optimize content for search engines. Utilize web analytics tools to monitor user behavior and website performance. 2. Analytics and Performance Monitoring:
Optimize site performance and load times, especially for high-traffic websites. Use data-driven decision-making to inform website improvements and strategies. Conduct A/B testing to improve user engagement and optimize website elements. 3. Project Management and Coordination:
Assist with integrations involving external software partners to enhance website functionality and user experience. Collaborate with various university departments to align website goals with institutional needs. Manage project timelines, budgets, and vendor relationships to ensure successful project delivery. 4. Security and Privacy:
Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations, including FERPA and GLBA. Implement cybersecurity best practices to protect the website from vulnerabilities and hacking attempts. 5. Content Support and Management:
Support the university's content strategy, curation, and governance processes. 6. Communication and Collaboration:
Foster interdepartmental collaborations to meet the needs of university stakeholders. Work closely with University Relations on faculty and staff training related to website usage. 7. Adaptability and Learning:
Stay updated with digital trends and industry best practices to keep the website modern and effective. Continuously enhance skills through formal education, industry conferences, and informal learning. 8. Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking:
Quickly identify and resolve technical or user experience issues. Employ creative problem-solving to address the needs of a complex institution. Additional Responsibilities
Website Development & Coding:
Write, test, and maintain code for website features and functionality. Implement website enhancements and updates. Collaborate with designers, content creators, and team members to align coding and site functionality with design requirements. Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution:
Diagnose and resolve website-related technical issues to minimize downtime. Conduct regular performance tests and identify potential issues proactively. Provide technical support to team members and address feedback regarding website functionality. Maintenance & Updates:
Perform regular updates to website software, plugins, and backend frameworks. Monitor and manage website performance, ensuring optimal loading times, responsiveness, and accessibility. Conduct regular backups of the website and its data. Security Management:
Implement, monitor, and update security protocols to protect against cyber threats, including DDoS attacks, malware, and unauthorized access. Conduct security audits and vulnerability assessments regularly. Stay updated on emerging security threats and best practices, applying necessary patches and updates promptly. Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Digital Marketing, or a related field. Experience gathering requirements, selecting an outside partner, and leading a 3rd party to deliver a new website. 5-10 years of experience developing websites or leading web services at a university. Proven experience in web development, digital strategy, and project management. Strong understanding of SEO, web analytics, and content management systems. Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration skills. Knowledge of data privacy regulations and cybersecurity best practices. Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in a related field. Experience in higher education or a similar complex organization. Familiarity with WCAG and accessibility standards.
