Information Security Engineer

The Information Security Engineer is a member of the Fusion Center Corporate Firewall Operations (CNFW) team that is responsible for managing and securing the Lumen Enterprise including but not limited to maintaining Firewall and VPN Operations. In addition, CNFW Engineers are responsible to evaluate current capabilities and predict future needs, then work with internal stakeholders, vendors, and peers to anticipate, define, and pursue these capabilities. This is a work from home position anywhere within the US. The main responsibilities include acting as the first point of contact for all firewall or VPN related questions, issues, or requests for assistance; maintaining security of the network by ensuring firewall rules meet company policy and configuring best practice security measures on the devices; resolving device issues identified via dashboard alerts, tickets, emails, IMs, or phone calls; performing initial triage and trouble identification for assigned Incident tickets; performing operating system upgrades to mitigate vulnerabilities or enhance security; following written procedures to maintain standards compliance and technical accuracy; maintaining a multitude of firewall vendor hardware across various environments; submitting and supporting simple Change Management requests as required; providing firewall security incident logs as required to Cyber Security personnel; creating personal performance objectives/goals to align with corporate objectives; participating in on-call rotation; and being able to work other shifts as needed based on business requirements. What we look for in a candidate includes minimum qualifications such as an undergraduate degree in computer science, engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience; understanding detailed technical documentation including security and network diagrams; understanding information security fundamentals, host and network security hardening and requirements; networking protocols; common risk management concepts; analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to multitask, resolve urgent issues, and change task priorities as required; and strong oral and written communication skills and comfort with presenting technical issues to all levels of management, as well as non-technical staff. Preferred qualifications include 2+ years of experience in Network Operations, Security Operations, Network Security, or Application Security; experience in network and/or firewall administration and implementation including experience in applying methodologies and principles for all levels of security; understanding of the following tools: Management platform, Threat analytics engine, IDS / IPS, anti-virus, or similar products; experience in network monitoring tools to perform initial triage of Incidents; Microsoft, Mac, or *NIX (Linux or UNIX derivatives) operating system experience; experience with technologies, tools, and process controls to minimize risk and data exposure; candidate should possess, or be willing to pursue, applicable professional/technical certifications, such as CISSP, GSEC, Palo Alto, + Checkpoint, Juniper, and Cisco; knowledge of cloud-based firewalls from Amazon, Google, Microsoft, or firewall vendors; knowledge of implementing next-generation firewalls; experience in large enterprise or carrier data center and/or networks; development experience in scripting languages such as Python or Perl is a plus; and able to obtain a GSA Public Trust suitability. Compensation information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors. Location Based Pay Ranges: $66,375 - $88,500 in these states: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WV, and WY. $69,694 - $92,925 in these states: CO, HI, MI, MN, NC, NH, NV, OR, and RI. $73,013 - $97,350 in these states: AK, CA, CT, DC, DE, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, TX, VA, and WA.
