Facilities Asset Technician
The Facilities Asset Technician supports the Facilities Management team by assisting in the collection, documentation, and verification of data related to university assets and equipment. This hands-on position involves both field and office work, and contributes to the accuracy of the asset inventory system. It is ideal for individuals interested in learning more about building systems and asset lifecycle management. The majority of the work will be at the Fairfax campus, however, some work will be at the Mason Square, Arlington campus and the Sci-Tech, Manassas campus. Responsibilities: Perform field surveys to collect data on Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) equipment including make, model, serial number, and physical location; Affix asset tags to equipment and ensure proper labeling; Use digital cameras and mobile tools to document assets visually; Review construction documents, blueprints, and equipment submittals to extract asset information; Accurately enter asset data into spreadsheets or digital databases; Assist with organizing and storing documentation in physical and digital formats; Coordinate with team members to resolve discrepancies or verify data; Adhere to standard operating procedures and maintain high attention to detail; and Navigate campus buildings and mechanical spaces safely, which may include walking, climbing, stooping, or bending. Required Qualifications: High school diploma or GED; Comfortable working in and around mechanical and utility spaces; Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets; Attention to detail and ability to follow procedures; Effective communication and time management skills; and Ability to perform physical tasks including walking, bending, climbing, and lifting up to 25 lbs. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in facilities, construction, maintenance, or similar field; Experience using mobile devices or cameras for data collection; Familiarity with building plans, submittals, or O&M manuals; and Interest in facilities management or asset lifecycle planning.
