General Summary:
The Sr. Network Engineer develops plans and implements various network elements (transport, access, and core) within the Ritter Communications network, including wholesale and complex business serving arrangements. This work involves expert-level knowledge and support related to equipment specifications, procurement, configurations, and installation assurance in preparation for Network Operations Center to assume management of it. This position may require an on-call rotation for Tier 3 escalations from the NOC. Essential Job Functions:
Defining, ordering, and overseeing installation and integration of equipment in the network, including switches, routers, servers, power systems, optical network equipment, patch panels, and cables. Design, provision, and test wholesale and complete business circuits. Support pre-sales engineering and design requests for enterprise and wholesale customers. Manage Critical Infrastructure and Network Capacity. Plan and prepare detailed equipment installation specifications and drawings. Ensure all site records are updated and accurate. Streamline and standardize implementation methods and procedures for scalability. Generate quote requests, purchase requests, and RFPs. Prepare project budgets and manage capital and operating expenses on engineering projects, including regular reporting and forecasting. Attend meetings with management, departments, and vendors to meet company objectives. Participate in inter-departmental planning to coordinate project activities. Work closely with Network Operations personnel for hand-off of deployed equipment and support NOC escalations. Travel to customer sites, project areas, events, and other Ritter locations as required. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Network Planning & Deployment. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Expertise in telecommunications design, installation practices, and principles. Experience provisioning or commissioning network elements such as routers, switches, DSLAMs, PON, TDM, VOIP, DWDM. Experience with Ciena, Metaswitch, and Nokia platforms is a plus. Familiarity with equipment asset and circuit inventory systems. Proficiency with office equipment and software including Microsoft Office, Visio, and telephone systems. Strong problem-solving, communication, and interpretation skills for technical documents. Project management skills are highly desirable. Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with customers and colleagues. Attention to detail and ability to work independently or in a team. Willingness to travel for business, with a valid Drivers License and a satisfactory driving record. Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Networking, or a related field, or 5-7 years of relevant telecommunications experience.
