Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent for Learning and Teaching, the Program Coordinator for Physical Education and Health will be responsible for the administration of four major areas: instructional leadership; curriculum and instruction; supervision and evaluation of teachers; and staff development.
1. Instructional Leadership
Serve as an instructional advisor to teachers and administrators preK-12 to effectively demonstrate differentiation of instruction through the content area.
Coordinate peer coaching and provide modeling, guidance, and other types of teacher support.
Serve as a collaborator with the nursing department on issues of health and wellness.
Serve as an active member on district curriculum boards.
Participate in the Andover New Teacher Induction and Mentor Program.
Plan and facilitate department content-based meetings at all levels.
2. Curriculum and Instruction
Advise and assist in the design, development, implementation, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of Physical Education and Health programs and staff to provide a continuous and articulated preK-12 program.
Make visitations to schools to analyze and evaluate the programs.
Lead the development, implementation, and analysis of common content assessments in each grade level.
3. Supervision and Evaluation of Teachers
Participate in the supervision of pre-professional and professional status teachers preK-12.
Evaluate teacher performance.
4. Staff Development
Design and facilitate formal and informal training, study groups, and other professional development opportunities that incorporate content standards.
Provide and facilitate staff development opportunities for teachers both during and after school hours, including teaching demonstration lessons and conducting workshops.
Work with administration to plan appropriate staff development programs during early release days.
5. Other Administrative Responsibilities
Make recommendations to principals regarding personnel within the program area.
Participate in the hiring process of new teachers in the content area.
Contribute to the development of content budget needs at each level.
Prepare grant applications.
Serve as the School Liaison to the Parent-to-Parent organization.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications include a Master's Degree in Physical Education or Health Education, Massachusetts Certification as Supervisor/Director, a minimum of five years' teaching experience, and at least three years in supervision or administration. Candidates should demonstrate excellent leadership and communication skills, knowledge of educational technologies, and experience in curriculum development and program evaluation. The salary is in accordance with the Andover Administrators' Association/School Committee Agreement. The position is evaluated annually by the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning.
