The Associate Vice President (AVP), Direct Response is responsible for providing the strategic vision and leadership for Breakthrough T1D’s Direct Response program. The AVP leads the effort to build the necessary infrastructure and develop the integrated plans, strategies, and processes for these initiatives. Through consultation and collaboration with staff leadership, volunteer partners and selected vendors, this position provides direction and the successful implementation and execution of initiatives to drive revenue from these critical channels. Working closely with the Senior Vice President, Philanthropic Engagement (SVP, PE) this position will plan as well as evaluate foundational infrastructure for success to ensure that all program areas achieve organizational goals and objectives. Key Responsibilities Design, implement and manage robust nationwide, multi-channel direct response program. Work closely with the SVP, PE to set goals, KPIs and budget to maximize Breakthrough T1D’s nationwide, multi-channel direct response program. In collaboration with vendor partners, build annual goals and strategies to meet nationwide direct response program metrics that will bring new donors to our file, retain a high percentage of active donors, lead to sustained file growth while also building strategies to upgrade donor segments, improve average gifts and grow overall direct response net revenue. In collaboration with SVP, PE and vendor partners, develops annual direct response program revenue and expense budgets. Utilizes industry best practices, acquisition list strategy, donor-level data, campaign and testing data, audience segmentation insights and prospect modeling to recommend and make strong decisions for the implementation of the direct response program strategy. Provides leadership to and manages performance of vendors who support the direct response program to include acquisition list management, direct response production schedule and operations, campaign and program analytics, revenue capture and reporting, and program KPI analytics in all channels. Provide strategic leadership across multiple direct response channels to implement effective story-telling strategy and messaging, appeals, and data analysis in close coordination with marketing & communications and selected vendors. Build a strategy that leverages donor-level data, campaign and testing data, prospect modeling and industry insights to maximize donor acquisition, retention and revenue from direct response Provides Direct Response Program revenue forecasts, growth strategies, key performance indicators and other program analysis as assigned. Direct strategies to test and implement strong list utilization, creative strategy and testing strategies, and digital conversion strategies to efficiently grow the donor base and revenue Provide direction on a multi-channel acquisition and renewal communications calendar that grows the Foundation’s donor file in both quantity and value of donors. Utilize data analytics and predictive modeling techniques to increase the organization’s donor base and net revenue, and work toward greater vertical integration with the donor pipeline. Leverage opportunities to provide stewardship and upgrade strategies needed to build a robust pipeline of mid, planned and major gift prospects. Maintain expertise in legislation and regulations affecting charitable giving. Embrace and live out professionalism and fundraising best practices.

Develop and maintain strong collaborative working relationships with other members of the Development and Marketing teams and develop strategies to integrate direct response into the culture of philanthropy. Collaborate with operations staff as needed to ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations that impact direct mail, digital fundraising, SMS and other channel compliance. Serves on various Development, Marketing / Communications, Technology, and Finance work groups as assigned. Provide training, mentoring and professional development to team members. Contribute to the nationwide development team and serve on the Global Development Senior Leaders Team. Administration & Management

Ensures all direct response strategies are compliant with federal, state, local and other registration, privacy, and other compliance regulations. Establishes and maintains departmental and organization wide policies and procedures. Partners with the SVP, PE to conduct regular RFPs for vendors who provide core services for the direct response program. Manage the department budget and meet the projected financial goals of the department.

Requirements 10+ years of non-profit direct response program leadership 5 years preferred in a leadership management/supervisory capacity. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience Expertise in direct response mail, digital, SMS and other channels. Proven ability to with proven ability to grow a direct response program’s donor file and revenue while maintaining appropriate and industry best-practice KPIs Possess deep knowledge of direct response (DR) and digital giving revenue channels Excellent project management and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple, simultaneous projects involving cross-functional teams with persistent attention to detail while maintaining a global view of the situation. Thorough understanding of and experience in building a donor base that builds pipelines for mid, planned and major gifts. Strong analytical skills to drive strategic development of department. Successful management of multi-disciplinary teams for development projects. Strong data and analytics skills. Strong presentation delivery, conveying ideas, and instructing effectively. Strong writing, research and problem-solving skills. Proven track record of experience supervising, coaching and developing staff. Ability to work and make judgments independently and take initiative. Proficiency with technology to support the development process and ideal user experience, specifically related to CRM platforms and business tools Direct experience in managing large fundraising campaigns, including campaign development, service and support activities. Ability to analyze and integrate information from relevant sources and respond to changing circumstances and priorities. Proven track record of collaborative leadership, successful management, coaching and development of staff. Desire to work in a team-based environment; ability to work with others to achieve goals. Excellent written, verbal, presentation/communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to understand and work within a complex organizational structure. Ability to creatively find solutions to problems and analyze feedback to create best practices by partnering with key stakeholders. Outstanding influencing skills to generate buy-in and create win/win situations Highly efficient in time management and ability to meet deadlines under pressure. Estimated 50% travel is required. The work setting is in home-based office.
