Position Description The Public Works Project Manager will oversee public infrastructure projects, collaborating with engineering designers and clients to ensure successful project delivery. The role involves managing project scope, deadlines, and budgets, with support and flexibility provided to instill project ownership. A strong civil engineering background, project management skills, and passion for public spaces are essential. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Interface daily with clients, develop proposals, negotiate scopes and fees, and manage billing and change orders. Spearhead plan processing at public agencies. Manage project staff, including design engineers and CAD operators, mentoring junior staff in engineering procedures. Assign tasks, monitor progress, and keep projects on track and within budget. Identify design criteria, oversee plan preparation, and ensure quality and efficiency. Assist team members with design tasks to develop skills. Support marketing and client development efforts. Solve design problems using engineering calculations and standards. Establish project controls, ensuring accuracy, profitability, schedule adherence, and effective communication. Minimum Work Experience 6-10 years in a Project Manager role with experience in public roadway and utility design. Experience designing public roadway infrastructure and writing construction specifications. Management experience with technical applications and staff interaction. Design experience in public roadway projects. Experience in Land Development projects, both private and public. Minimum Qualifications B.S. in Civil Engineering. Current CA P.E. license. Experience in writing construction specifications. Valid driver’s license. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D. Strong skills in grading, utility, and site plans, with cost estimation experience. Ability to apply civil engineering principles effectively. Leadership and interpersonal skills for high-visibility roles. Physical Requirements Walk job sites as needed. Operate survey equipment if required. Drive to job sites when necessary.
