Director of Embedded Software Engineering (Hands-On) Location: Santa Barbara, CA - please note this role is 5 days per week on site. Relocation assistance is offered. Director of Embedded Software Engineering
to lead and scale a growing team of engineers working on mission-critical systems. This is a
hands-on leadership role , ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-impact environment and wants to be closely involved in technical development while also guiding and mentoring a team, the team
build in Rust, but we're open to an Embedded C/C++ background . You will be responsible for both
technical direction and people leadership , working alongside world-class engineers to design, develop, and deploy embedded software for next-generation aerospace and defense systems. Key Responsibilities: Lead and mentor a team of embedded software engineers across multiple projects Drive architecture and development of embedded software in C, C++, or Rust with a demonstrable desire to work in Rust. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware, systems, and program management Establish best practices for code quality, testing, and system reliability Contribute directly to codebases and critical design decisions Requirements: Proven experience leading and growing engineering teams in an embedded systems environment Strong background in C, C++, or Rust with hands-on development experience in recent roles. Previous work in aerospace, defense, or high-reliability systems preferred Excellent communication skills and the ability to operate at both strategic and tactical levels US citizenship or Green Card required due to the nature of the work.
