Who We Are Looking For
Reporting to the Communications Director – Americas, the
Public Relations Manager
is responsible for creating, implementing and overseeing cross-channel communications plans that support our organization, our projects and our clients. This role works collaboratively across departments to identify goals, project milestones and opportunities for effective
communications in all channels, including media and public relations, advertising, website content, social media and other emerging communications channels.
The Public Relations Manager will build relationships with key media and influencer contacts in sports, entertainment, design and architecture outlets in the Americas for projects at local levels and will contribute to firmwide brand storytelling efforts with key national media. This role is expected to contribute to 360-degree communications strategy.
The best candidate will be self-motivated, comfortable managing competing deadlines, and always strive to include a diverse set of perspectives in their work to ensure our communications, content and storytelling represent our brand identity across the globe. Our preferred candidate will have prior experience in sports and/or AEC industry and an interest in working in a dynamic global design environment with a diverse range of public assembly building types including sports venues, convention centers and transportation facilities.
Strategic Work You’ll Focus On
Project Media and Public Relations: Lead project- and market-level media and public relations, including developing strategic storylines and pitching stories to elevate new project wins, project milestones and project openings. Develop, in partnership with Communications Director and firm leadership, robust earned media strategy that supports firm goals. 360-degree Communications Strategy: Work directly with Market Leaders and agency partners to design and implement communications plans and strategies that leverage the best communications channels and tactics to meet project goals, including advertising,
website content, blogging, thought leadership, public relations, social media and emerging tactics.
Project Management: Oversee the creation of communications deliverables, ensuring materials meet project goals and brand guidelines. Analytics and Reporting: Contribute to monthly communications measurement reports, reporting on quantitative and qualitative data that shows progress to goals. Team Leadership: Partner with Communications Director to identify opportunities, gaps and challenges in projects, programs, team and communications operations. Recommends solutions and maintains a growth mindset fueled by entrepreneurial creativity. Business Objectives: Collaborate with the Communications Director, Global Head of Communications & PR, and Head of Brand Media & Event to ensure communications resources support priority business objectives.
What Your Day Could Consist Of
Build and nurture media and influencer relationships, including reporters, editors and freelance journalists within AEC, sports, entertainment and key adjacent markets. Produce and coordinate news releases, fact sheets, talking points and media guides for project teams and market leads. Serve as a spokesperson for the firm and point of communications contact for clients on behalf of the markets and projects you lead Staff Project Leaders and Executives during media or external stakeholder interviews, ensuring each leader is prepped and comfortable with key message points. Brainstorm and pitch project story ideas to media and influencers. Manage daily operations of external communications and public relations firm. Develop and manage editorial calendars to ensure POPULOUS stays on top of key storytelling moments. Analyze various metrics and data – both internal and industry-related – to identify trends in content performance and audience engagement. Use learnings to recommend and implement more high-impact communications plans. Plan and manage the design, content and production of communications collateral in collaboration with internal Creative Services team. Create and edit content as needed, in collaboration with Copywriters and Graphic Designers, based on your individual background as a writer, editor, producer, journalist, videographer or other creative expertise.
Requirements For Success
Deep background in media and public relations with relevant clips and contacts Extensive expertise in communications planning, creative content development, campaign strategy and strategic storytelling. Strong ability to collaborate with diverse teams, build networks and establish credibility to effectively drive projects forward. Strong ability to prioritize, knowing when to delegate and when to “dive in” based on deadlines and team capacity. Proven organizational and project management skills, with the capacity to meet tight deadlines and independently manage workload. Exceptional communication skills, including verbal, technical, and creative writing, alongside proficient proofreading and editing abilities. Ability to work autonomously, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and deliver successful results within deadlines. Positive, resourceful, and highly adept at problem-solving. Passion for fostering a collaborative and cohesive team environment.
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Strategic Communications, Marketing, Journalism or a related field. 10+ years of experience in Marketing and Communications, with a preference for the Architecture, Engineering or Construction industries and/or Sport Proven experience in growing key marketing and communications channels Advanced experience with pitching, monitoring and sentiment tracking tools as well as formal project management tools
