Construction Services Category Manager
to join our team. As the Category Manager, you will be responsible for managing the sourcing and category management processes related to all construction services used in our manufacturing and operations, including pulp and paper mills, corrugated, and consumer box plants in the United States and Canada. Your expertise will drive efficiency, cost savings, and supplier performance. Key Responsibilities
Category Strategy:
Develop and implement comprehensive category strategies at the national, regional, and local levels to source, procure, and manage civil, mechanical, electrical, and other construction crafts needed to support operational and project needs. Collaborate closely with stakeholders, including operations and engineering leadership, to align strategies with business objectives and project requirements. Category Standards:
Define standards for capital purchases and retrofits, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, and work with engineering teams to incorporate the latest technologies and best practices. Cost Reduction:
Identify opportunities to reduce operational costs through process optimization, negotiation, and supplier collaboration. Work with operations leadership to understand their needs and challenges, and find innovative solutions to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Supplier Relationship Management:
Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, conduct performance reviews, and drive continuous improvement. Collaborate with procurement teams to select suppliers that meet project-specific requirements and timelines. Cost Savings:
Develop and implement initiatives to achieve cost savings targets, track progress, and report to senior management. Leverage economies of scale and negotiate favorable terms for large-scale procurements. Market Analysis:
Stay informed about industry trends, market conditions, and emerging technologies related to manufacturing equipment. Share insights with engineering and operations teams to support planning and decision-making. Contract Management:
Negotiate and manage supplier contracts, ensuring favorable terms. Coordinate with project procurement teams to align contract terms with project timelines and requirements. Risk Mitigation:
Proactively identify and mitigate risks within the category to ensure business continuity and compliance. Work with procurement teams to assess and manage project-related risks. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Project Management, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in category management, procurement, or supply chain management. Experience managing complex manufacturing equipment categories, especially in industries with limited supplier competition. Strong negotiation skills and ability to develop effective supplier relationships. Knowledge of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) models with a proven track record of cost savings and process improvements. Leadership and team management skills. Data-driven decision-making abilities. Effective communication and presentation skills. Proficiency in procurement software and tools. Ability to travel internationally up to 25%. Preferred Qualifications
Fluency in German, Finnish, Spanish, or Portuguese. Certifications in Lean Six Sigma, Project Management (PMP, CAPM), or Procurement (CIPS, CPSM, CICM).
