Position Summary
We’re seeking a seasoned payroll and compliance leader with deep expertise in U.S. payroll and experience managing international payrolls. This critical role is responsible for overseeing complex, multi-country payroll operations and ensuring full compliance across workers’ compensation, ADA accommodations, leave programs, and regulatory audits. The ideal candidate is analytical, process-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced, high-accountability environment. You will lead a lean, high-performing team, handle escalations and reconciliations directly, and play a key role in driving systems transformation.
What You’ll Do
Manage end-to-end payroll processing across the U.S., Portugal, Denmark, India, Germany, and EOR-supported countries including France, Japan, Singapore, China, Italy, and the U.K., ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and legal compliance. Lead U.S. and international workers’ compensation programs, collaborating with insurance providers and internal stakeholders on claims management and audits. Oversee HR compliance programs, including I-9 verification, unemployment claims, policy enforcement, and internal/external audits. Own and administer ADA accommodations and leave programs (FMLA, parental, personal, etc.), ensuring consistency and compliance. Serve as the primary escalation point for payroll-related issues, including complex taxation and compliance matters. Ensure accurate data flow between UKG (HRIS/Payroll) and Deel (international/EOR payroll). Manage 401(k) audits and ensure timely, compliant execution of annual non-discrimination testing. Analyze compliance and audit data to identify risks, uncover trends, and drive strategic improvements. Support system upgrades, process enhancements, special projects, and company-wide audits. Collaborate with HR and Finance to align on payroll deliverables while maintaining clear functional ownership. Create dashboards and ad hoc reports in Excel to inform decision-making and highlight opportunities for efficiency. Drive continuous improvement by documenting processes, automating workflows, and scaling internal controls. Operate with urgency, accountability, and professionalism—modeling operational excellence across the function. Perform other duties as needed.
Who You Are
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field. 6+ years of progressive payroll experience, including 2+ years in a leadership role managing both U.S. and international payroll. Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, taxation, benefits, and wage & hour laws across multiple countries. Hands-on experience managing workers’ compensation, leave programs, and ADA accommodations. Proficient with UKG (including Ready); experience with Deel is a plus. Highly skilled in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs, with the ability to build and interpret data-driven reports. Proven leadership ability, with strong prioritization, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
