$140,000.00/yr - $180,000.00/yr EPIC CV is seeking a highly-motivated candidate with a positive attitude who must be a Board Certified (ABCP) Perfusionist

EPIC Cardiovascular Services is looking for a perfusionist with extensive ECMO/ECLS experience who would like to focus his/her career on providing ECMO care at a renowned Washington, DC hospital. Total ECMO will exceed 200 per year. This person will join a staff of 5 ECMO specific personnel at this hospital.

Major Duties And Responsibilities

The duties of the ECLS Perfusionist include, but are not limited to: Operates the extracorporeal circuit, pump, and related equipment. Manages the ongoing process of healthcare delivery to patients and families per institutional policies. Participates in patient rounds and possibly making suggestions to the Physician and ECLS team after assessing patient responses to ECLS therapy. Reviews laboratory and blood gas results and treats within defined protocols prescribed by physician in charge. Circuit adjustments including pump flow, gas exchange, hemofiltration, anticoagulation therapy, or other to maintain patient within limitations set by ECLS physician. Troubleshoots the ECLS circuit and make replacements of circuit components as indicated and usually in the presence of the institutional Perfusionists and Physicians. May assist in data collection and research activities associated with the institution or EPIC. Attends ongoing classes of specific institution and/or EPIC as related to ECLS services. Specific and ancillary responsibilities of the ECLS Perfusionist: Accurately assess pathophysiological changes within the patient during bypass. Manages ECMO flow in relationship to patient management parameters Performs all technical skills with efficiency, accuracy, safety, and in accordance with institutional and EPIC policy and procedures. Operates all equipment according to policy and procedure: differentiate patient vs. patient problems and intervene appropriately. Implements standing physician orders within established guidelines Anticipates, intervenes, and manages crisis/emergency situations according to policy and

procedure; maintains professional composure.

Demonstrates effective assessment of the ECLS circuit. Performs, manages, and troubleshoots anticoagulation per institutional protocol. Demonstrates proper blood sampling techniques from the ECLS circuit. Documents appropriately on all ECMO records including OnCloud EMR. Demonstrates administration of all blood products into the ECLS circuit Manages laboratory results and perform appropriate interventions as related by ECLS therapy. Assesses clinical status of the patient, including vital signs and discuss possible intervention. Provides feedback for improved patient outcomes to other care providers Assimilates information and then provide documentation of the interventions that provide the chosen integrated plan of care. Anticipates and communicates patient needs that will require intervention by other members of the care team. Anticipates learning needs for patients/families/ and staff. Assists others in defining learning outcomes and appropriate interventions. Uses innovation in individualizing patient/family teaching to the individual patient/family needs. Participates during patient management discussions and suggest clinical management option during discussions. Maintains qualification licensure as per those licensure requirements. Maintains communication within institutional and Epic standards and policies for delivery of ECLS care. Maintains competencies in current topics of ECLS thru institutional journals, Internet, and networking with care providers of similar nature. Punctuality, professional respect to all other team members, and professional behavior must be maintained at all times. Personal demands on the ECLS Perfusionist include: Participate in “on-call” scheduling, which is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Must wear a pager or cell phone during “on-call” times and be available to respond within the designated call response time of the hospital. Must be in good physical condition. Must be able to endure long hours, both mentally and physically Physical requirements include standing for long periods of time, lifting, stooping, sitting, stretching, and other bodily demands for extended intervals. Exposure to noxious gases and bodily fluids with risk of infections and diseases. Remain current on present perfusion technology procedures, techniques, and literature. Establish and maintain a professional demeanor. Re-enforce the integrity of Epic CV Services. When directed, serve in supportive capacity for all clinical accounts relative to vacation relief, sick leave, and temporary staffing.

Candidates Should Also Possess The Following

Ability to adapt to a challenging clinical environment. Must possess good communication and troubleshooting skills. Must be able to practice evidence based medicine; also to advise and participate in clinical decisions with a team approach. Must be willing to relocate to Washington, DC, or the immediate surrounding area.

Estimated Compensation Range

$130,000-$180,000+ per year based on skills, experience and possible bonus opportunities
