POSITION DESCRIPTION The successful candidate will serve as Deputy Program Manager I for HGL’s U.S. Army Corps of Engineers South Pacific Division clients. The role involves supporting the Program Manager and team in developing, capturing, awarding, and executing projects within the Sacramento, Los Angeles, and Albuquerque Districts. The Deputy Program Manager I ensures successful task execution, manages multiple projects, and handles risk and performance expectations. This position can be based in Sacramento, CA (remote work possible) or Phoenix, AZ (hybrid work model). Responsibilities/Duties What You Will Do Support management of critical projects and proposals until additional project managers are hired within the SPD. Participate in business development, identifying and qualifying new contract opportunities. Assist with project execution to meet safety, quality, schedule, and budget goals. Collaborate with project teams on training and resource allocation. Participate in program reviews and client follow-ups regarding performance. Identify and assess risks, contributing to mitigation strategies. Support continuous improvement initiatives and foster innovation. Communicate effectively with clients, regulators, team members, and management. Required Skills What You Need to Be Successful Experience managing government clients, especially USACE districts. At least 5 years managing investigation and remediation projects under CERCLA and RCRA, overseeing teams, budgets, schedules, safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. Proven leadership in managing project teams. Ability to mentor and hold project managers accountable. Strong financial management and risk mitigation skills. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a related field (Master’s degree may reduce experience requirements). Excellent organizational and time management skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build stakeholder consensus. Relevant experience demonstrating responsibility, initiative, and problem-solving. Experience working with USACE-Sacramento District or other USACE districts is preferred. Skills That Are a Plus (Not Required) PE, PG, or PMP certifications. Experience with PFAS site investigation/remediation. Experience supporting MMRPs. Additional Details We value diversity and a collaborative spirit. A pre-hire drug test is required.
