We achieve our mission by living our core values of Safety, Integrity, Performance Driven Culture and Teamwork. Role Summary: Technical leader for premier industrial HVAC equipment manufacturer. Lead an interdisciplinary engineering team to execute on designing custom-manufactured HVAC solutions, developing and launching new product platforms, and leading continued product and process improvement activities in pursuit of safety, quality, productivity, and cost targets and optimal manufacturing performance. Prioritizes and manages projects and team assignments to exceed production engineering timeline expectations, above market innovation, and continuous improvement targets. WHAT YOU’LL DO: Lead on-time execution of custom HVAC engineering projects, including preparing performance specs, mechanical layouts, electrical wiring and piping schematics, custom controls design, and manufacturing documents. Manage and enhance best practice engineering processes and methods to maintain discipline, quality, and efficiency in technical initiatives. Innovation+improvement roadmap: Manages a funnel and pipeline for product improvements and innovations, working with sales, marketing, quality, and operations. Product improvement: Leads maintenance and design change for existing products to improve performance, reduce cost, or resolve shop & end user issues, ensuring compatibility through appropriate validation Innovation requirement definition: Develop new product specifications in conjunction with sales and marketing, through voice of customers and market research. New product design: Lead technical product development across stagegates (concept, prototyping stages, final design) by applying sound and good engineering principles including product requirements, concept design and selection, prototyping, testing, etc. Business case development and execution: Support business cases for new product innovation and serial enhancements, including revenue, cost, margin, and timing targets. Own SAS product selection, configuration, and pricing tools and partner with sales and channel teams to continuously improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the tools. Market Landscape and Competitive Intelligence: Develop a full understanding of market dynamics including regulatory, customer, competitive, and end-user trends. Develop engineering team strategy and lead annual planning of priorities, projects, goals, and timelines, aligned with business goals and objectives. Innovation discovery: Explore, socialize, and implement innovative technologies within the business in order to improve product platforms and customer experience. Manage cross-business engineering support and technical guidance to Purchasing, Sales, Marketing, Suppliers, Customers and Operations, prioritizing resource deployment across
development programs and initiatives. Support the enhancement of quality control programs and testing to assess product design weakness and potential field quality problems. Ensure compliance to all appliance certification codes and standards (UL508A, NEC, ANSI and others). Support and/or manage preparation, control, and maintenance of production engineering release and manufacturing planning documents, which may include: drawings, tool orders, blueprints, specifications, engineering orders, process plans training and guidance to shop floor personnel methods and sequence of fabrication and assembly estimated production times and routings material specifications, standards, and bills of material quality control standards, manuals, and testing plans factory layouts, work instructions, ISO procedures Capex: Support various projects related to equipment acquisition and upgrades and plant expansion, analyzing process requirements and machinery and equipment options and technical data. Support operations management in achieving goals for safety, quality, delivery, and cost, including: Developing and implementing best practices in manufacturing, including sheet metal fabrication, welding, and assembly Design and fabrication of weld and assembly fixtures to facilitate repeatability and ease of assembly Facility layout, line balancing, and process flow to improve production efficiency For new product introductions, confirming that new tooling and production documentation are in place Incorporates input and improvement ideas for new products to improve manufacturability of products (DFM) Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis on production challenges and product defects and implement actionable solutions. Contribute to operations continuous improvement program, supporting identification and implementation of opportunities, while leading CI initiatives within engineering to improve work processes and tools Maintain and develop organizational dynamics for collaboration, knowledge sharing, mentoring, and continuous learning. Coach and mentor team members at all levels to enhance
skills and technical competencies,
adopt lean principles, and foster culture of efficiency and collaboration Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (mechanical or electrical) with 10 years experience in the HVAC industry. 5-10+ years of related engineering management experience Working knowledge of HVAC and/or refrigeration market and principles, including
air balance and system design and sizing, heating and cooling air, and psychrometrics Understanding of air handler construction, including sheet metal design and fabrication, structural analysis, electrical and control system design, and product assembly Experience with ANSI or UL standards and working with testing agencies Working knowledge of fabrication equipment, production flow, and Lean Manufacturing and Lean Process principles Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate and convey technical information to diverse teams Leadership:
Demonstrated success
leading cross-functional teams and initiatives to deliver project objectives. Talent: Passion about
talent development and
mentorship Management: Strong organizational, resources management and time management skills to manage across multiple projects simultaneously and deliver project objectives. Design: Experience managing mechanical, electrical, and controls design of product development projects. Engineering systems: Experience working in, improving, and developing engineering processes, procedures, and governance for manufacturing organizations. Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to assess complex problems, interpret data, and make informed decisions. Competency in Microsoft Office, one or more
ERP systems, engineering software including SolidWorks, AutoCAD, EPDM PREFERRED Master's degree in Engineering or Business preferred. Software programming and using configurator to automate CAD Familiarity with CNC programming ( turret presses and laser cutters) Experience with thermodynamics and the refrigeration cycle Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) experience Key attributes Customer focused, always bringing forth the customer’s perspective Ability to personally live safe and hold themselves and other team members accountable by having their back in support of our Safety core value.
