The Department of OBGYNhas an exciting opportunity for a full-time Sr. Embryologist to work in Miami, FL. The Sr. Embryologist has experience with various aspects of infertility for both male and female. The incumbent consults and advises other staff groups/members regarding IVF laboratory procedures and outcomes, and is proficient in all aspects of human assisted reproductive techniques (ART). The Sr. Embryologist also collaborates with other medical, nursing, counseling, and administrative staff in furtherance of the overall goal of aiding patients in achieving their reproductive aspirations.
Conducts the full range of basic and advanced ART laboratory procedures.
Handles eggs and sperm (gametes) from patients for in vitro processing; performs micromanipulation (ICSI) with suitable gametes.
Prepares gametes and assures proper incubator settings and other environmental variables for the in vitro fertilization (IVF) activities.
Preserves gametes and embryos for futures use by performing cryopreservation (for eggs, sperm and embryos). Knowledge of ovarian tissue freezing will be a plus.
Monitors embryo development through different stages of embryo culture.
Conducts all required standards with the assisted reproductive technique, including standard oocyte insemination (classical IVF) and ICSI. To be at same level as other embryologists for ICSI fertilization rate (80%), embryo biopsy (70% implantation rate and
95% survival rate), media and dishes set up, eggs retrievals, sperm preparation, eggs inseminations, fertilization checks, stripping of cumulus cells for ICSI procedure, embryo grading (ASRM or Gardner classification), and participates in PT external and internal. Performs cryopreservation and thawing of embryos. Successfully performs transfers of fresh and frozen embryos. Maintains current understanding of human reproductive biology, infertility, and assisted reproductive technology. Maintains accurate records pertaining to patient care and maintains the confidentiality of all patient information according to federal and state guidelines and regulations. Makes appropriate judgments about the clinical significance of laboratory data. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in relevant field Florida Embryologist license is required. Technical Supervisor certification from the American Board of Bioanalysis (ABB) Minimum 4 years of relevant experience Skills in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data. Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions. Department Specific Functions Works under the supervision of the lab director. Perform IVF lab duties including the preparation for IVF and oocyte retrievals. Media and dish preparations. Isolation of oocytes from follicular fluids. Intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and conventional oocyte insemination (cIVF). Follow up fertilization and update records accordingly. Semen analysis and semen wash for IVF and IUI patients. Order laboratory equipment and supplies as needed. Coordinating the receiving and shipping of samples (sperm, eggs or embryos) from other centers or storage banks. Coordinating the shipping of biopsy samples to PGT laboratories. Cares for and maintains laboratory equipment. Keep all records and necessary forms. Searching and resolving any laboratory issues. Active participation in research activities.
