History
Compass was founded in 2011 as a ministry of Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church to serve homeless children in Springfield Public Schools - District 186. From 2012-2016, Compass was a program of the Family Service Center and expanded the initial model to more schools, recruited additional partners, and added the Camp Compass summer learning program and Backpack Feeding Program. In 2016, Compass for Kids became an independent 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization whose mission is to provide academic and social-emotional support to empower underserved children and families. Compass for Kids is unique and exists to meet needs in our community that are not met by other programs/organizations. Compass for Kids has innovative programs and is committed to high standards of excellence and continuous quality improvement.
Job Summary
The Director of Development and Marketing is responsible for overseeing both the Development and Marketing functions of Compass for Kids. This Development and Marketing Professional needs to be an excellent, experienced supervisor and able to successfully hold people accountable for meeting their deadlines and goals. The successful candidate will be highly organized, and have a blend of ‘big picture’ oversight skills and paying attention to small details that matter for quality. It’s important for the Director of Development and Marketing to have strong relationship-building skills as this person will be interacting frequently with the organization’s stakeholders.
The Development Department includes all fundraising events and campaigns, donor relations (individual and corporate), grants and grant reporting, and ultimately raising the funds needed for organizational sustainability and growth. The Marketing Department includes marketing and communications, advertising, brand awareness, social media, website, Public Relations, and graphic design. The Director of Development and Marketing works closely with the Board of Directors and supervises the Development and Marketing teams. The successful candidate will be a highly capable, experienced professional who is able to work independently with minimal supervision, take initiative, and exhibit leadership.

Responsibilities
Supervise Senior Donor Relations Manager, Marketing & Communications Manager
Performance Reviews, Weekly Check-Ins, Coaching, and Staff Accountability
Development
Oversee all Development functions of the organization, including strategy
Event & Campaign Planning
Lead liaison between relevant staff and Board of Directors
Responsible for planning, implementation, execution, and monitoring all aspects of activities such as Back to School Brunch, Stakeholder Event, Match Campaign, etc.
Donor Relations
Build relationships with a portfolio of current and prospective individual as well as corporate donors/sponsors
Design and implement stewardship plans
Host stakeholder tours/events
Grant writing and reporting
Research to find new grants
Write and submit grants
Prepare for and attend grant interviews
Write and submit grant reports
Administrative
Department budget preparation and monthly monitoring
Monthly reporting
Expert on Donor Database and all related processes (e.g. annual tax letters, thank you notes, donor reports, etc)
Marketing & Communications
Oversee entire Department, including strategy
Update and implement annual Marketing and Communications plan
Graphic Design
Design some marketing materials
Oversee the design, content gathering, and execution of quarterly newsletter, donor communications, and Annual Report
Community Outreach/Engagement
Make presentations to civic groups and churches, give radio and TV interviews
Join community networking groups
General
Adhere to goals outlined in strategic plan
Adhere to organizational policies and procedures
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including grant-writing skills
Excellent public speaking and story-telling skills
Excellent relationship-building skills
Strong Computer and Technology skills (e.g. Microsoft Office, Google Calendar, Google Drive and Excel spreadsheets, Mailchimp, donor database), Phone, Copier/Scanner/Printer
Excellent organizational skills, including backwards planning and project management
Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines
Ability to handle stress in a positive manner
Work independently with minimal direction; a self-starter
Flexible team player
Ability to peacefully resolve conflict
Requirements
Education:
Graduate degree or coursework in Fundraising or Marketing,
preferred Experience: At least three years of Development/Fundraising and/or Marketing experience, required Supervisory experience, required Valid driver’s license, dependable transportation, and car insurance Ability to pass a background check Compensation:
This is a full-time position. The pay range is between $55,000 - $70,000/year, depending on education and experience. Benefits Included: Paid Time Off (PTO) Simple IRA Retirement Plan (after one year of employment) Health Insurance, Dental Insurance, Vision Insurance, and Life Insurance Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Dependent Care FSA Short- and Long-Term Disability Coverage Location:
