Staff Propulsion Engineer

will work in the exciting and challenging world of tactical propulsion. Responsibilities center on the use of various technical principles to perform analysis, design, or test portions of complex materials, structural components, and functional systems. Specific responsibilities include: Mentor product engineers on solid rocket motors and warhead production

Establish best practices for transitioning development programs to production

Review technical data packages to ensure drawings are inspectable and tolerances are manufacturable

Evaluate designs with other technical leaders to improve on design for manufacturing

Lead failure review boards as a chair or fit team lead to drive quick resolutions

Support product engineers with root cause and corrective actions

Provide guidance to ensure project/program teams can meet established technical objectives

Act as a technical liaison for production programs that have a direct impact on the sector

Serve as a subject matter expert in warhead and rocket motor production

Basic Qualifications: BS in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering

12 years of related work experience with a BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or 10 years with a MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering

Must be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite.

Preferred Qualifications: 15+ years of tactical solid propulsion experience

10+ years of production experience

Active Secret Clearance

Skills related to statics, dynamics, fluids, thermodynamics, rocket propulsion, computer skills/programming (MATLAB, FORTRAN, Solid Modeling, Excel) are all desirable.

Leadership & teamwork capabilities

Excellent interpersonal communication skills

Self-motivated, willing to learn, and interested in working in a team environment

Experience developing and delivering presentations and leading small groups

Able to work in an autonomous work environment on complex projects

Salary Range:

$147,700 - $221,500 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
