Primary Duties and Responsibilities

UCLA Health IT is seeking an outstanding Principal Cloud Architect and Engineer to join the Solutions Architecture and Engineering (SAE) group. This role involves designing, implementing, and managing scalable, secure, and high-performing cloud solutions, focusing on core infrastructure, networking, firewall, security, analytics, machine learning (ML), and artificial intelligence (AI). The Principal Cloud Architect and Engineer will provide strategic direction, leadership, and vision to define and implement the enterprise multi-cloud platform strategy, employing industry best practices to ensure a secure, innovative, and cost-effective computing environment to address complex technical challenges in Healthcare.

This role offers a flexible hybrid work arrangement, requiring presence on-site at least three days a quarter, with travel to the "home office" location not reimbursed. Employees will complete a FlexWork Agreement with their manager, which will be periodically reviewed and may be adjusted or terminated as needed.

The salary range for this position is $124,600 – $289,400 annually, with the university anticipating an offer between the minimum and $180,000.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Computer Science or equivalent (Engineering, Mathematics, IT) with relevant experience
  • 15+ years of enterprise technology experience in architecture and leadership roles
  • 10+ years of experience (both on-premises and Cloud) in designing, implementing, deploying, and managing enterprise infrastructure, data management, software development, security, and data center operations
  • 7+ years of experience with security architecture, mitigating cybersecurity threats, and providing security outreach or training
  • 7+ years of experience in a healthcare provider organization, with at least 5 years in an Academic Medical Center, involving projects related to care delivery, hospital operations, billing, interfaces, EMR integration, and analytics
  • 5+ years of experience in software architecture, design, and development utilizing the Microsoft .Net platform
  • Hands-on experience leading at least two significant enterprise cloud deployments (Azure and AWS)
  • AWS/Azure Certified Cloud Engineer, Architect, and Administrator certifications required
  • Knowledge of DevOps principles and practices, or experience in a real-time operational role
  • Experience with automation tools like Terraform, Chef, Puppet, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, or AWS CloudFormation
  • Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
  • Strong foundation in data analytics, ML, and AI principles
