The UCSF Department of Neurology has two pediatric neurology divisions: the Division of Child Neurology (in San Francisco) and the BCH Oakland Division. Founded by Dr. Bruce Berg in the 1960’s, the Division of Child Neurology was one of the first academic pediatric neurology programs on the West Coast. The BCH Oakland Division has its roots in a historic children’s hospital--Children’s Hospital Oakland--which for over 100 years has served the East Bay community as well as children from all regions of California. In 2014, the divisions joined forces within the BCH Pediatric Brain Center. The Pediatric Brain Center is marquee service line integrating neurology and neurosurgery care on both campuses. It is a patient-oriented center that specializes in highly coordinated care for complex nervous system diseases, while also advancing brain health through its research and training missions. The Center has over 30 pediatric neurology faculty, with experts in every subspecialty domain, internationally regarded basic and clinical research programs, a highly competitive Child Neurology residency program (three positions per year), and multiple clinical fellowships.
Qualified candidates will possess a medical degree, medical license, residency training in Pediatric Neurology, and Board-eligibility or certification in Neurology with Special Certification in Child Neurology. Candidates must meet all of the qualifications by the time of appointment.
