ERMCO-ECI Bristol
Overview
As a Mechanical Design Engineer on ERMCO's Transformer development team, you'll play a vital role in both product innovation and manufacturing execution. This hands-on, high-impact role requires a blend of mechanical design, manufacturing experience, and collaborative problem-solving. Working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, you will help drive the development, prototyping, and production of amorphous and silicon transformer cores.
We operate in a non-hierarchical, highly flexible structure where input from every team member is valued. We're looking for a motivated, optimistic engineer who's passionate about quality, performance, and continuous improvement-and who can jump into critical projects and deliver solutions that make a real difference.
Responsibilities
Qualifications
• BSME or MSME with both analytical and hands-on engineering experience.
• Minimum of 5 years in mechanical design for electrical infrastructure, with exposure to manufacturing and documentation processes.
• Strong track record of cross-functional collaboration, including remote work with multi-disciplinary teams.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results across simultaneous projects.
• Highly self-motivated with a proactive mindset and problem-solving orientation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Proficient in CAD software (AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks preferred).
• Experience with mechanical system analysis including thermal and structural.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Demonstrated attention to detail, persistence, and ability to see projects through to completion.
• Skilled in preparing customer-facing drawings, internal BOMs, and manufacturing documentation.
• Adaptable leadership style with the ability to lead or support based on project needs.

Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of low- and medium-voltage Transformers including physical design, prototyping, production support, and testing.
- Provide clear, accurate design documentation and instructions to support efficient and repeatable product builds.
- Analyze mechanical systems using both classical engineering methods and computer-aided tools (FEA, thermal/structural analysis).
- Interface with vendors to ensure proper manufacture of components.
- Lead or support hands-on assembly and mechanical production in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Train production teams on mechanical assembly procedures and best practices.
- Occasionally travel to support development and manufacturing implementation.
- Integration of PLC controls and HMI interfaces for both Silicon and Amorphous manufacturing lines.
- Specification and project management of a #6 batch anneal furnace.
- Specification of a purchased amorphous continuous anneal furnace.
- Coordination of component purchases for additional Silicon and Amorphous lines.
- Coordination and integration of uncoilers for the Silicon line.
- Integration and testing of linear servo actuation for the LVDG folder.
- Integration and testing of hydraulic cylinder actuation for the LVDG folder.
- Testing and evaluation of the AM blade feed system.
- Retrofitting existing AM lines with numerically controlled actuation and blade feed systems.
- Retrofitting AM and Silicon lines with updated PLC and HMI systems.
- Mechanical design and component support for AM&M's amorphous continuous anneal furnace.
