Job Description
Job Summary:
The Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining electrical control systems, PLC programming, and automation solutions to support manufacturing operations. This role ensures optimal equipment performance, supports continuous improvement initiatives, and contributes to safe and efficient plant operations.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Design, program, and troubleshoot control systems including PLCs, HMIs, motion controls, sensors, and drives.
  • Maintain and upgrade existing automation systems to improve reliability and performance.
  • Develop, modify, and maintain control system documentation (e.g., schematics, panel layouts, I/O lists, software programs).
  • Lead or support equipment installation, commissioning, and validation processes.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, production, and engineering teams to diagnose equipment issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards, codes, and regulations (e.g., NEC, OSHA).
  • Recommend and implement process improvements using data-driven methods.
  • Support predictive and preventative maintenance programs involving control systems.
  • Manage controls-related vendors and contractors as needed.
  • Provide training and technical support to maintenance and production teams.
Knowledge & Skills:
  • 3+ years of experience in controls engineering in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi).
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA systems (e.g., FactoryTalk View, Wonderware).
  • Strong understanding of industrial networks (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus).
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or other electrical CAD software.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in a high-volume, automated manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of robotics, servo systems, and vision systems.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
  • Project management experience.
  • Working Knowledge of robotic programming preferred
Education, Certificates & or Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related field.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements:
  • Ability to work on the production floor, climb ladders, and access control panels.
  • May require standing or walking for extended periods.
  • Occasional off-shift or weekend work to support production or installations.
