Required Qualification: (as evidenced by an attached resume) Doctoral degree or foreign equivalent degree. Five years research experience specializing in Digital Health and Substance Use to include at least three years of research experience following attainment of a doctoral degree.

Brief Description of Duties: The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Stony Brook University is seeking a Senior Research Scientist with expertise in digital mental health and substance use prevention. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in AI-driven, user-centered intervention design, with a focus on health equity and community-engaged research.
The candidate will be responsible for designing and executing complex, high-impact research programs that advance both theoretical and practical knowledge in their area of expertise. This role requires a deep understanding of the scientific landscape, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage interdisciplinary collaborations and administrative responsibilities. The successful candidate will lead a dynamic, extramurally funded research program that leverages cutting-edge approaches such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and user-centered design to address pressing challenges in mental health and substance use prevention.
A key aspect of this role is the integration of health equity and community engagement into all phases of research. The Principal Investigator will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across departments-including but not limited to Computer Science, Public Health, and Biomedical Informatics-and engage with diverse community stakeholders to co-develop accessible, culturally responsive digital interventions. The position also involves mentoring students and trainees, contributing to the department's academic mission through teaching and clinical supervision, and disseminating research findings through high-impact publications, conference presentations, and translational efforts that inform public health policy and practice.
Working independently, the candidate will apply advanced scientific training and disciplinary judgment to conduct significant research and administrative activities. These efforts will influence the strategic use of institutional and external resources over both short- and long-term programs. The candidate's work will contribute to the investigation and evaluation of current theories and principles in the field, with technical outcomes subject to sponsor review and compliance standards.

- Identify key research questions and select appropriate methodologies.
