Description
Amogy is an innovative cleantech startup on a mission to unlock ammonia's potential as a clean energy source. Driven by a vision of a more sustainable future, we've developed carbon-free energy solutions that leverage ammonia as an alternative fuel to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors, including maritime shipping and stationary power generation. Join our dynamic team as we accelerate the commercialization of our technology and revolutionize the future of energy.
We are looking for a Principal Mechanical FEA Enginee r who will serve as a mechanical- and thermal-analysis subject matter expert for Amogy's structural analysis group. This role entails contributing to efforts in the evaluation of reactors, combustors, burners, pressure vessels, frames and structures, and other high temperature and pressurized components and systems, operating in ammonia and hydrogen environments.
This role requires a deep technical background in the mechanical and heat-transfer/thermal design and analysis of systems related to technologies experiencing high temperature operation, with an emphasis on heat-transfer subject matter expertise. Candidates should have a proven track-record of applying engineering principles to successful and robust product designs and a track-record of project leadership and developing and training more junior engineers into productive contributors and establish and drive team adherence to engineering standards, best practices, and work processes.
What You'll Be Doing:
  • Technical Expertise : Providing expert knowledge in structural, thermal/heat-transfer, fluid mechanics, and fracture mechanics analysis, with an emphasis on heat-transfer subject matter expertise
  • Modeling and Simulation: Creating and refining complex 3D models for simulations, executing simulations, and analyzing results
  • Optimization : Proposing and implementing optimization solutions based on simulation results
  • Collaboration: Working closely with design and combustion engineers, certification teams, and other stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met
  • Documentation and Reporting: Preparing detailed reports and documentation of analysis results and project progress
  • Mentorship: Mentoring and training more junior engineers and providing guidance on best practices in FEA and structural/thermal design
  • Standards & Best Practices: Establishing, optimizing, and refining the analysis team's standards and best-practices. Provide day-to-day inputs and outputs on analysis deliverables as an active participant in executing project deliverables
Requirements
The minimum requirements we seek:
  • BS/MS with 10+ or Ph.D. with 6+ years of professional experience in energy, aerospace, automotive, or related field.
  • 2+ years of prior experience in leading projects or technical teams.
  • Deep technical background in the mechanical design and analysis of high-temperature mechanical systems, with a particular focus on heat-transfer/thermal design.
  • Proficiency in applying standards and code to designs (e.g. ASME/BPVC Sections II-D, III, V, VIII Div 1 and 2; NFPA 86; ASTM, AWS) (proficiency/experience in all the codes is not required)
  • Proven track record of excellence in structural and thermal finite element analysis (FEA), applied to real world problems in aerospace, automotive, maritime, nuclear, or similar applications.
  • Experience in optimizing thermal solutions for mechanical equipment subject to creep and fatigue.
  • Expertise in use of ABAQUS, SIMULIA, or ANSYS.
  • Excellent organizational skills and proactivity in finding solutions to complex problems.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and communicate timely updates to internal stakeholders.
  • Outstanding communications, presentation, and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. with 10+ years of work experience in mechanical, structural, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of prior experience in leading projects or technical teams.
  • Professional licenses.
  • Proficiency in ABAQUS.
  • Prior experience in computer aided design (CAD), experience in SolidWorks, 3DX, Catia, Inventor, or similar.
  • Experience in developing fuel reformers (steam methane reformer, methanol reformer, ammonia cracker) or high temperature packed-bed reactors.
