Burma Inc is seeking a skilled and experienced KITCHEN LEAD to play a helping role in supporting the Executive Chef in managing the kitchen and ensuring that all dishes reflect the authentic flavors of one of our Southeast Asian inspired restaurants nestled in the heart of Hayes Valley. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 + years of experience in the restaurant industry with a strong flair for creating mouthwatering dishes, menu development and the ability to aspire and mentor a team of culinary professionals.
As a KITCHEN LEAD , you will work alongside our Executive Chef to manage day-to-day kitchen operations, ensure the preparation of high-quality food, and maintain a safe and efficient work environment. You will help lead a talented kitchen team, support staff-development, and ensure the consistent delivery of excellent food and service.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Lead by example and foster a respectful, warm and collaborative kitchen environment
  • Prepare and cook all menu items according to standardized recipes and quality expectations set by the Executive Chef
  • Assist in daily prep work including measuring, portioning, and labeling ingredients prior to service
  • Maintain fully stocked and organized line stations to ensure smooth and efficient service periods
  • Properly store and rotate incoming deliveries in accordance with food safety and storage guideline (FIFO)
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation at all times in compliance with California Health and Safety Codes
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with other kitchen team members to coordinate service and resolve issues quickly
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and training sessions
  • Step into assist or fill in for absent staff as needed to maintain kitchen operations
  • Support the team by contributing to kitchen tasks beyond assigned duties when necessary
  • Monitor food quality, prep levels, and safety compliance throughout each shift, reporting any concerns to the chef or manager
Skills and Qualifications:
  • 2 + years of professional kitchen experience (Burmese/Southeast Asian cuisine is preferred)
  • Strong knife skills and understanding of station workflows
  • Leadership or supervisory experience is a plus
  • Stong ability to communicate and time management skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to acquire a California Food Handlers license and Sexual Harassment certification (before or within 2 + weeks of hire date)
