Engineering - Groundskeeper
GROUNDSKEEPER
Job Summary: Responsible for the cultivation and care of the landscaping and grounds surrounding the hotel.
Primary responsibilities:
  • Perform grounds keeping and building maintenance duties.
  • Landscape by planting flowers, grass, shrubs, and bushes.
  • Apply pesticide to rid grounds of pests such as mosquitos, wasps, ticks, and others.
  • Apply fertilizer to ground to enhance growth.
  • Perform routine maintenance duties such as applying plaster, fixing fountains, and other duties.
  • Sweep walkway of debris.
  • Cut down tree limbs that are posing a danger.
  • Trim shrubs and pull weeds.
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance procedures on equipment utilized in groundskeeping.
  • Water plants as needed and apply fertilizer.
Job Requirements:
  • Working knowledge of grounds maintenance equipment (edger, trimmer, chainsaw, sprayer).
  • Working knowledge of tree/shrub cultural practices (proper watering, fertilization, pruning).
  • Familiarity with irrigation systems.
  • 1 year previous groundskeeper experience.
  • Familiar with identification of trees and shrubs.
    Ability to communicate effectively with the staff.
Physical Requirements:
  • Standing/Walking: Constantly. Stairs, tile, rubber mates covering tile, linoleum, concrete, padded carpet, marble, and gravel, etc.
  • Crouching (Bend at knees): Frequently. Lifting, completing tasks performed at low levels, putting supplies and materials away.
  • Stooping (Bend at waist): Frequently. Repairing cosmetic needs of furniture and other equipment as needed, lifting light objects, putting supplies and equipment away.
  • Reaching (Overhead/extension): Frequently. Performing repairs, retrieving supplies and materials, updating shop board.
  • Twisting/Turning (Knees/waist/neck): Frequently. Perform cosmetic, electrical, plumbing and other repairs.
  • Climbing: Frequently. Ladders, step stools, stairs, etc.
  • Crawling/Kneeling: Frequently. Perform plumbing repairs, carpet repairs, etc.
    Handling/Grasping: Frequently. Occasionally. Performing repairs.
    Balance: Frequently. Climbing ladders, scaffolding, stairs, carrying tools and equipment.
  • Pushing/Pulling: Average weight: Frequently. Equipment, carts, racks, weighing 5-100 lbs. Maximum weight: Occasionally. Equipment weighing up to 150 lbs.
  • Lifting/Carrying: Average weight. Frequently. Equipment and supplies weighing an average of 5-50 lbs. Maximum weight: Occasionally. Equipment and supplies weighing up to 100 lbs.
Working Environment:
  • Interior of hotel, in all areas of the hotel. Exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures.
  • Exterior of hotel with exposure to weather conditions.
  • Exposure to various hazardous chemicals.
