As a Mechanic, you will:
  • Perform routine and advanced inspections, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment, including light- and heavy-duty units, hybrid/electric vehicles, and public safety apparatus.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions using diagnostic tools and repair manuals, complete corresponding repairs.
  • Perform specialized work on heavy equipment such as backhoes, skid steers, graders, aerial lifts, boom lifts, sanitation trucks, and fire apparatus
  • Service, recharge, and maintain vehicle air conditioning.
  • Inspect, repair, patch, balance, and mount tires as needed.
  • Conduct welding and fabrication for equipment repairs and modifications
  • Perform research and troubleshooting to support effective repairs and maintenance.
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools and equipment in the performance of maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Load and unload equipment and supplies; lift and move heavy objects in accordance with safety procedures.
  • Handle, apply, and dispose of hazardous material in accordance with regulations.
  • Advise supervisor of required parts, equipment, and supplies.

  • Wash and detail vehicle and equipment as needed to complete maintenance, including buffing, waxing, and vacuuming.
  • Perform porter duties, including parking, relocating, and transporting vehicles as needed.
  • Maintain accurate service records, inspection logs, and work orders using fleet management software; perform related data entry.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized workspaces, including assisting with overall shop housekeeping duties.
  • Advise supervisor or lead mechanic on needed parts, tools, and materials to complete the assignments; assists with parts inventory and supply orders.
  • Respond to emergency vehicle or equipment breakdowns in the field as required.
  • Handle, apply, and dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, lead mechanic, and supervisor to coordinate repairs and service activities.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding vehicle safety, emissions, and workplace safety standards.
  • Provide courteous and professional customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Work with vendors to source, price, and order parts. Maintain professional, respectful, and ethical relationships with all vendors.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
Will possess knowledge of:
  • Methods, tools, and equipment used in the diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of gasoline, diesel, hybrid, and electric-powered vehicles and equipment, including heavy machinery and public safety units.
  • Operation and repair of internal combustion engines, powertrains, suspensions, transmissions, brake systems, electrical systems, and electronic diagnostics.
  • Proper use, handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials, including knowledge of OSHA standards and Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems, including lift gates, aerial booms, sanitation bodies, and other specialty components.
  • Air conditioning and climate control systems in automotive and heavy equipment applications.
  • Welding, cutting, and basic metal fabrication techniques used in repair and maintenance.
  • Hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical systems, including lift gates, aerial booms, sanitation bodies, and other specialty components.
  • Safe operation of a wide variety of hand and power tools, diagnostic scanners, lifts, jacks, cranes, and shop equipment.
  • Occupational hazards, safety rules, and best practices in a fleet maintenance shop environment.
  • Preventive maintenance scheduling principles and the use of fleet management software to track service records and vehicle history.
  • Industrial standards, federal/ state/ local regulations, and environmental compliance requirements related to vehicle maintenance, emissions, and workplace safety.
Possess the ability to:
  • Perform physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, kneeling, and bending in various indoor and outdoor conditions, and inclement weather.
  • Accurately inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems on a variety of vehicles and equipment.
  • Utilize computerized diagnostic systems to troubleshoot and perform fine calibrations on vehicle and equipment components.
  • Recognize and respond to unsafe working conditions, mechanical hazards, and operational failures in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Read, interpret, and apply information from technical manuals, schematics, blueprints, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks, assignments, and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and quality of work.
  • Accurately maintain service records, inspection logs, and work orders using fleet management software and related systems.
  • Adhere to all applicable safety procedures, environmental regulations, and standard operating protocols in a shop environment.
  • Build and maintain effective, respectful working relationships with supervisors, team members, vendors, and internal customers.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally in both verbal and written form to convey technical information, complete reports, and collaborate with others.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, service-oriented setting.
  • Work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed or required.
  • Perform occasional fieldwork or emergency service callouts may be required, including evenings or weekends.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education, Training and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of full-time experience in the maintenance and repair of automotive and mechanical equipment, including heavy equipment; OR and equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Licenses and Certificates: All Licenses and Certifications required must be maintained throughout employment.
  • A valid Arizona driver's license at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.
Special Requirements:
  • Residency within 25 miles of San Luis and within the US.
Desired/Preferred:
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • San Luis residency.

Physical Demands

Work Environment
Work is performed primarily in a repair shop environment with exposure to noise, high heat conditions, oil, chemicals, fumes, grease, and potentially hazardous materials. Occasionally, work may be performed outdoors while making onsite repair calls, with exposure to varying weather conditions.
