About the Role

Serve as a staff engineer handling engineering assignments of intermediate complexity . You'll apply essential technical knowledge, support EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) activities, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver projects on scope, schedule, cost, and quality targets.

DUTIES:
  • Work under the direction of a Discipline Lead or Area Lead Engineer to analyze problems and recommend technical solutions of intermediate complexity.
  • Develop and review specifications and design criteria.
  • Perform and check engineering analyses and calculations; specify materials, equipment, and systems; resolve technical issues of intermediate complexity.
  • Coordinate technical matters with other disciplines, project management, vendors, and clients.
  • Execute work in accordance with the Project Quality Plan, approved scope, cost, and schedule baselines.
  • Establish, control, and report key material quantities; provide related analysis and forecasts.
  • Support procurement and subcontracting activities (scopes of work, technical bid evaluations, vendor submittal reviews).
  • Support construction administration (respond to RFIs, address field changes).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Job Requirements
  • B.S. in Civil or Structural Engineering plus minimum 5 years of related experience
  • Working knowledge of applicable federal (including Department of Energy orders), state, and local codes and standards
  • Effective communication skills with project management, coworkers, clients, vendors, and subcontractors
  • Job-related technical knowledge necessary to complete assigned work
  • Intermediate knowledge of discipline codes and standards
  • Ability to work in compliance with local, state, and federal codes, statutes, and guidelines
  • Strong attention to detail; able to work in a timeconscious, timeeffective manner
  • Intermediate proficiency with common office software (word processing, email, spreadsheets, electronic presentations)
  • Experience providing EPC services on commercial or industrial projects
  • Proficiency executing EPC projects using engineering analysis, 3D modeling , and 2D CADD automation tools in a multi-discipline environment
Discipline-Specific Requirements
  • Intermediate ability to perform hand and computer calculations for foundations, concrete, and steel structures
  • Intermediate knowledge of one or more structural design programs: STAAD, STAADPro, RISA3D
  • Intermediate knowledge of Mathcad
  • Intermediate knowledge of:
    • Analyzing complex structures
    • Wind and seismic loading in structural calculations
    • Dynamic analysis and design
    • Computer modeling and analysis
    • Blast design
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Experience designing systems, structures, and components for nuclear facilities under ASME NQA1 requirements
  • Practical field experience
  • EPC project experience in one or more of the following industries:
    • U.S. Department of Energy or other U.S. Federal Government agencies
    • Nuclear facilities under a nuclear quality assurance program
    • Manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology
  • Advanced proficiency with STAADPro and Mathcad
Additional Required Expertise (Logic Maintained)

Design Experience (one of the following):

  • Design and analysis of steel and concrete structures (reinforced concrete and structural steel) OR
  • Design and analysis of commodity supports

Software Proficiency (all of the following):

  • STAADPro, Excel, Mathcad

Code Knowledge (all of the following):

  • ACI 318-14, ACI 349-13
  • AISC N690-18
  • ASCE 7-16, ASCE 4-16, ASCE 43-19
  • IBC 2018
