We are currently seeking:

n

A mechanic III to join our team and, under general supervision, maintain, repair and adjust City vehicles, equipment and machinery, in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.

n

Your responsibilities will include:

n
    n
  1. Performing preventive maintenance on City vehicles to maximize the effective life cycle of the equipment.
  2. n
  3. Diagnosing mechanical and electrical problems on vehicles and equipment; performing maintenance and repairs within scope of authority, and in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
  4. n
  5. Performing all phases of basic automotive maintenance, including tune-ups, troubleshooting and repairs, tire repairs, electrical diagnostics, brake work, engine diagnostics, hydraulics and lubrications.
  6. n
  7. Diagnosing and repairing vehicle component systems, engines, transmissions, power trains, braking, and steering systems; using technical manuals and computer equipment to diagnose and correct vehicle problems.
  8. n
  9. Repairing electrical, fuel supply, brakes, air conditioning and engine cooling systems; performing emergency repairs in the field as required; installing auxiliary and specialized equipment; verifying equipment meets safety standards before returning to fleet operations.

  11. Performing mandated annual safety inspections for City vehicles.
  12. n
  13. Performing welding tasks, fabricating and repairing metal parts and components.
  14. n
  15. Ordering parts as needed, maintaining shop, yard, and equipment in clean and orderly condition.
  16. n
  17. Maintaining work orders, recording and logging services performed and general vehicle information.
  18. n
  19. Utilizing proper safety precautions in all work performed, recognizing, avoiding, and reporting unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.

  21. Participating in continuing education and certification opportunities.
  22. n
  23. Providing training and assistance to any Fleet Services employee
  24. n
  25. Supervisory duties in the absence of Supervisor, Level 4 Mechanics
  26. n
  27. Completing additional training above Mechanic 2 requirements

  29. Hours: Monday through Friday 7:00am-4:00pm.
  30. n
  31. Regular and timely attendance is required.

Requirements and Skills:

n
    n
  • Safe and effective repair and maintenance of vehicles according to City standards.
  • n
  • Organizational techniques with physical inventories and work scheduling.
  • n
  • Inspecting, diagnosing and repairing mechanical, brake, fuel and electrical problems in gasoline and diesel vehicles.
  • n
  • Reading and interpreting technical manuals and specifications.
  • n
  • Safe use of power and hand tools, and chemicals, lubricants and cleaning compounds.
  • n
  • Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
  • n
  • Understand and adhere to City policies, procedures, and safety rules.
  • n
n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

n

Education and Experience:

n

High School diploma or equivalent; and four years' experience in vehicle maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

n

Required Licenses or Certifications:

n
    n
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver License. Class A/B CDL may be required. If a Class A/B CDL is obtained, held, and utilizedduring the course of employment, employee will be subject to DOT guidelines and regulations.
  • n
  • Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure.
  • n
  • Minimum of five ASE certifications to be obtained within 18 months of employment
  • n
n

Required Knowledge of:

n
    n
  • Federal and state traffic and safety regulations.
  • n
  • Methods, tools and equipment used in repair and maintenance of vehicles.
  • n
  • City safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • n
  • Safety practices in a workshop environment.
  • n
n

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

n
    n
  • Must have own tools sufficient to perform the daily repairs and duties.
  • n
  • Work is performed in repair and maintenance facilities.
  • n
  • Moderate physical demands; strength sufficient to lift and move items weighing up to seventy-nine (79) pounds; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment.
  • n
  • Requires vision capacity to perform fine calibrations and differentiate between colored wires.
  • n
