Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

- Conduct field investigations and perform failure/accident analysis on incidents including train derailments, pedestrian strikes and vehicular impacts at railroad/highway grade crossings n
- Evaluate rolling stock component related failures n
- Investigate design, safety and failure of machinery and mechanical systems n
- Perform calculations, engineering analysis, computer analyses and simulations and technical reporting n
- Provide technical findings and conclusions in laymen's terms, both verbally and in writing n
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies n
- Regular and predictable physical presence in the office n
- Long term goal to become testifying expert n
- Ability to accept and integrate constructive feedback into job performance n
- Regular and predictable presence at work n
Position Requirements:

- B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering required n
- P. E. license preferred n
- Seven years of post-academic engineering work experience preferred n
- Strong written and oral communication skills n
- Computer skills with spreadsheets, word processing and presentation software is a must n
- Computer aided drawing skills is a plus n
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills n
- Public speaking experience is a plus n
Physical Requirements:

- Ability to travel 35% of the time n
- Ability to maneuver in and around an accident site n
- Ability to lift 50 lbs n
- Ability to carry equipment to and from job sites n
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing n
- Ability to drive in all conditions n
- Ability to fly on airplanes n
- Ability to effectively communicate with clients and colleagues n
- Ability to visually inspect job sites and relevant artifacts n
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required by the work site n
- Ability to learn a new industry and obtain required certifications n
