Position Information
The Dallas District Roadway Design Office is looking for a Transportation Engineer Supervisor that will oversee one of four In-House design sections working on a variety of projects including major mobility projects! This position will manage a team of up to 10 engineers and engineering assistants at various skill levels to develop Plans, Specifications & Estimate packages for these complex projects. The TE Supervisor role provides the chance to participate in all aspects of the management and technical design of a project as well as the opportunity for mentorship and skills development of team members!

Position Description
Supervises personnel engaged in transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and/or bridge inspection. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials, private entities and/or contractors. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.
Essential Duties:
  • Advises staff engineers.
  • Prepares and submits Plans, Specifications and Estimates (P.S. & E.) on projects.
  • Coordinates with Area Engineers on design and plan preparation.
  • Oversees career development activities for engineering assistants.
  • Participates in district plan review activities.
  • Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.
  • Testifies at condemnation hearings and trials.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education : Bachelor's degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
Experience:
  • 4 years' experience in transportation engineering. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have one (1) year supervisory/managerial experience. Project leader or lead worker experience may substitute for supervisory/managerial experience.
Licenses and Certifications :
  • Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Licensed Prof Engineer*
*Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States , but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.
Competencies:
  • Transportation design engineering principles, practices and methods and the application of engineering theory
  • Hydrologic, hydraulic and geotechnical design activities and principles
  • Applicable plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements
  • Construction engineering policies and procedures
  • Applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities
  • Design and plan preparation methods and requirements
  • Performing basic design and drafting
  • Speaking to present images and ideas in a clear, concise, organized and interesting manner
  • Prioritizing and organizing work assignments
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Sedentary Work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
