LEAD ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
Lead Electrical Engineer with power plant design experience to join our Electrical Department in Houston, TX., to help Lead projects. This is a great opportunity to get involved in challenging and interesting design projects within the Power industry.
Responsibilities
Involved in the application of general design practices. Will select and recommend procedures in design and lead a team to implement the design for installation.
Performs non-routine and complex assignments involving responsibility for planning and conducting a complete project of various scopes.
Lead shall have the ability to select and adapt plans, techniques, designs, and coordinate the work with the project team.
Reviews, analyzes, and integrates the technical requirements and design approaches. Review work for technical adequacy and satisfaction of requirements.
The position's skills are heavily focused on electrical design and execution, while having working technical knowledge of other disciplines' design requirements.
Position requires the ability to lead and coordinate work efforts within their discipline project team to successfully complete project assignments.
Provide field support, including field verifications for retrofit applications, as-built documentation, on-site procurement and installation supervision.
  • Independently applies extensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields.
  • Work on a major project or several projects of moderate scope with complex designs.
  • Plan and schedule team activities.
  • Estimate specifications, requisitions, calculations, and quantities for proposed projects.
  • Develop budget requirements (i.e., time and materials) for proposed projects.
  • Monitor and manage team performance and budget compliance.
  • Develop and forecast staffing requirements and quantities for installation.
  • Lead a team of engineers and designers to complete assignments on projects.
  • Assigns and schedules tasks to and directs engineers, designers, and administrative staff to meet project schedules.
  • Coordinate project activities across multiple office locations.
  • Coordinate design and engineering activities with other engineering disciplines.
  • Reviews complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance while assuring adherence to applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
  • Conceptually identify interface requirements for existing facilities.
  • Participate in constructability reviews for the assigned project.
  • Develops new techniques and/or improved processes, materials, or products.
  • Provide support to field construction and commissioning activities.
  • Monitor and report on project engineering discipline status to the Project Manager/Leadership Team.
  • Participate in client meetings.
  • Assists upper-level management and staff as a technical specialist or advisor.
  • Mentor younger professionals, leading by example.
  • Design guidance for raceway systems, including underground duct banks, cable tray, and above-ground conduit.
  • Design guidance for lighting systems, including interior, exterior, and roadway lighting.
  • Design guidance for grounding systems.
  • Develop schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Develop one-line and three-line diagrams.
  • Coordination with engineering and other crafts to assure a complete, coordinated design.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from a 4-year ABET-accredited college.
  • Minimum of 7 years of electrical engineering design experience on Power and/or Industrial Projects.
  • Professional Engineering License with the ability to obtain licensure in other states within the US.
  • Prior Lead Engineer experience with executing projects.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code, IEEE/ANSI Standards, and NEMA Standards.
  • Experience with Medium and Low Voltage Equipment and Cables.
  • Must be able to understand and comply with company policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interface with Senior Company Leadership.
  • Must be organized, self-directed, able to prioritize and multi-task, work in a team environment, and take direction from others.
  • Willingness to travel and work in office and field environments as necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Lead Electrical Engineer on Engineer, Procure and Construct Projects.
  • 15-20 years of electrical engineering design experience preferred for Combined Cycle Power Plants.
  • Experience with OTI ETAP software for Electrical System Analysis and Relay Coordination.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code preferred.
  • Experience with Switchyards, Large Power Transformers, Generator Circuit Breakers, and other large power equipment.
  • Prior experience with the procurement of electrical equipment such as transformers, breakers, switchgears, cables, etc.
