Title: Manufacturing Engineer
Location: Sumter, SC

Position Overview:
This position reports to the Engineering Supervisor. Responsible for the implementation of project and process support activities toward attainment of departmental and plant goals. Primary focus is in areas of capacity expansion, quality and waste improvement, and cost improvement programs. Required to handle multiple assignments of varying scope and complexity.
Essential Functions:
  • Responsible for the design and implementation of machine improvements and capital equipment project management activities. Proficient in mechanical design and troubleshooting.
  • Directs personnel in the troubleshooting and maintenance of cam-driven mechanisms and pneumatic and hydraulic equipment used in the production process.
  • Supports the manufacturing effort, with proven ability to identify problems and implement plans toward their resolution. Focus areas include chronic issues in quality, waste, and equipment efficiency.
  • Applies proper engineering practices and maintains relationships with equipment vendors. Coordinates activities between equipment suppliers, R&D, and internal departments.
  • Manages projects of small to moderate scope and handles multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Completes or oversees necessary designs, drawings, calculations, and equipment specifications.
  • Determines which project elements are suitable for in-house fabrication versus outsourcing. Secures quotations, selects contractors, and supervises all work to ensure timely completion.
  • Recommends capital equipment or process modifications, oversees installation, debugging, and training of production personnel.
  • Responsible for associated documentation, including validations, operations procedures, preventive maintenance schedules, engineering change notifications, and spare parts listings.
  • Accountable for spending within approved capital or expense limits.
  • Directs the efforts of support personnel such as machinists and technicians for equipment modification, adjustment, removal, and installation.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in high-speed production.
  • Experience with:
    • Synchronous and asynchronous assembly platforms.
    • Cam-operated equipment.
    • Pneumatics.
    • Servo-controlled assembly and AutoCAD.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or Black Belt) preferred.
Skills and Certifications:
  • Experience with high-speed manufacturing.
