Primary Purpose:
Perform daily major and routine mechanical repairs to ensure proper performance and safety of school buses and all other district vehicles. Perform projects assigned and follow established procedures.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• At least 21 years of age
• Ability to obtain a clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
• Certified Texas vehicle Safety Inspector preferred
• TASBT and/or ASE certifications preferred
• Brake certification

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Excellent work habits and ability to follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to diagnose all mechanical problems and perform repairs as needed
• Ability to operate equipment and tools involved in vehicle repair
• Ability to visually inspect and service vehicles
• Ability to lift heavy equipment and parts
• Ability to operate a school bus as needed including route assignments
• Ability to pass required bus driver safety training
• Ability to pass alcohol and drug test
• Maintain a clean driving record
• Other duties as assigned

Experience:

• Five years' experience as mechanic/technician; diesel and automotive.
• Extensive knowledge in troubleshooting and repair of electrical and electronic systems
• Extensive knowledge in brake repair
• Extensive knowledge in Air Conditioning systems installation and repair.

Work Schedule: 260 days
