Title: Communications Manager
nType: Full-time, Exempt
nLocation: Office located in Sacramento, CA
nnThe Communications Manager will create and implement a comprehensive media and public relations strategy that capitalizes on CAIR-SVCC's expertise and enhances CAIR's image within key constituencies.
nnDuties & Responsibilities
nn- Develop and implement an integrated, organization wide strategic media and public relations plan that will allow CAIR-SVCC to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted audiences, including the media, public officials and key influencers n
- Serve as lead point person on media interactions (editors, reporters, producers and other media professionals) and actively cultivate and manage media relationships n
- Manage CAIR-SVCC's social media vision and strategy n
- Oversee strategic initiatives to target and engage activists, allies, and Muslim community members across all digital channels n
- Draft and edit all external communications including press statements/releases, fact sheets, e-mails, e-newsletters and action alerts n
- Pitch and secure stories to ensure coverage of issues of strategic importance including CAIR-SVCC's programs, special events, public announcements, and other projects n
- Review, edit, and proofread CAIR-CA publications including the annual report and other various reports n
- Serves as situation management and crisis communication leader and updates organizational crisis management plan as necessary n
- Manage and speak at various press conferences and events; prepare talking points, speeches, presentations and other supporting material n
- Manage and maintain CAIR-SVCC website with updated content n
- Represent CAIR-SVCC through public speaking and community engagements n
- Supervise Communications team including Social Media Manager in day-to-day tasks and projects n
- Conduct media trainings for staff and community members n
Qualifications
nn- Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred -- in the field of Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or related field n
- 3-5 years of work experience in a communications/public relations role n
- Experience working with media as an on-the-record spokesperson n
- Ability to delegate and supervise department staff n
- Experience developing and implementing communications strategies n
- Foundational understanding of design and visual elements and how to create simple yet effective graphics is necessary n
- Experience managing and writing copy for social media is necessary n
- Familiarity in communicating with the Muslim community is a plus n
- Experience with Canva, Adobe photoshop/In-Design/Illustrator, or other graphic design programs is a plus n
- Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills n
- High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical level n
- Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives n
- Experience working with the American Muslim Community n
OTHER:
